This is just a cool track to watch a race at.

I got hit by about twenty rocks that had a little moister on them, hard to tell with all the dust in my eyes. The track for as dry as it is was very racy.

You need to get hazardous duty pay if you sit in the pit bleachers @ Kamp, Jerry. Ask John Hoover. During an MCSC show, a couple of years ago, he got clocked by one about the size of a ping pong ball. I thought Referee Mills Lane was going to show up to give him a standing eight count.

I was hit twice, once on the left facial cheek. (Don't go there :O:) and once on the left wrist. And I was sitting at the beginning of turn one, right behind Bill Gardner.

Kind of like a racy, but dusty night at a smaller version of Eldora.

Sorry Danny, I thought I was blocking all the dirt clods from getting to you... :O: I got nailed a few times myself.

Kyle Wissmiller attempted to take Bob Price's rig to Kamp yesterday. He did not get far from Indy when the truck had a major engine problem. Talk about bad luck -- he said the wrecker he called to tow the rig back to Indy drove right past him while he was parked along the side of the Interstate, and never returned. When Kyle called the dispatcher a second time, he was informed that the wrecker driver couldn't find him.
Gotta wonder what that wrecker driver was doing as he drove down the ol' highway !!

I was wondering what is was like this year too. I decided not to go this year because of how bad it was last year. I sat closer to turn 4 and couldn't really see the cars between 1 & 2. I don't like dust but I can handle it if the racing is good. If I can't see through the dust to tell if the racing is good or not???? Maybe sitting closer to the s/f line would be ok.

Re: Kamp/Boswell Updates???

I've gotta agree with the statement that I left looking like a coal miner. Last night was my first and will be my last visit to Kamp Motor Speedway. I didn't enjoy driving 3 hrs. with gas being what it is and having it be so dusty that you could hardly see the racing. The track looked just about right when I got there and thought they would bring the sprints out to run it in like at Kokomo. However they ran most of the moisture out of the track with the farm implaments. I realize dirt tracks will be dusty but hell it was Sprintweek, probably your best night to showcase your track and that didn't show me much. Bob Bressert

I drove 4 hours each way. Seen something (Mostly a big brown cloud) and then and drove home.

Congrats to the coondog. The victory lane cellebration was about all you could see last night.

Chuck, who loves the track, and staff but why ever return to a track you can't see. Even Klepper and crew didn't see Rex Norris leave the track. Don't think anyone did.

Eatin Dirt 7/18/08 10:25 AM

Re: Kamp/Boswell Updates???

Chuck, I only saw Rex leave the track because I had my head turned tryin to keep some of the dust out of my eyes. They were very lucky that no one was standing where Rex's car came to rest. In turns 3-4 the only part of Tracy Hines car you could see was the white numbers on the black hood. I agree I did love the track but the conditions were poor at best.

Charles Nungester 7/18/08 10:37 AM

Re: Kamp/Boswell Updates???

Oh there were some highlights like Levis heat, Tracy's very late third fastest qualififying run. Cottle, when you could see him was clearly the fastest on the track in the feature (Awesome run) and of course our hometown Win by Coons/Hoffman.

Instead of B*Tchin about it, Thats the good points and I'll leave it at that. I may post some pics later when I get them uploaded.

Chuck

I hope those that get ticked about seeing Helfrich's John Deere show at Tri-State enjoyed the dustbowl at Kamp.

Glad I saved my vactation day and stayed home to go to work. If want dust I can count on Gas City and Eldora to get my fix, however Gas City hasnt been that awful lately.

I love the pictures that have the fans expressions in the background that are clear enough to see. I got a few good chuckles out of it. Now in no way am I laughing about the car in the wreck. I hope the guy was ok.

Re: Kamp/Boswell Updates???

The dust was bad. No doubt about that. But, through the dust, there was a race that was better than either Lawrenceburg race or the one at Gas City. As I eluded to before, watching JCJ knife through traffic was like watching an artist at work. And the battle for third that went on between Cottle and Hockett was an excellent one. Let's hope they get the dust problem fixed. This is a big, wide track, with a nice facility, really good hosts and a picturesque backdrop. As long as they can keep it from being like you're living in a John Steinbeck novel, it's a very comfortable place to see a race.

This shot is fantastic but the dust you see flying up isn’t from the track itself. He flipped over the wall onto the grass/dirt platform where the old pavement track used to be and that is what is throwing the dust up. Granted the track was exceptionally dusty, it wasn’t too bad during qualifying. It was great to see him get out under his own power in a very nasty flip.

I will be proposing the addition of 5 more sprint races for national points at Kamp this year!!! (Sorry there are no emotiocons on the mobile version of IOW)

Thanks to all who offered congratulations and espically those who braved the dust/rock storm last night.

Make no doubt about it, I wasn't exactly pleased about not being able to see the feature at Kamp thru the dust storm:thumbsdown:, but the next two nights more than made up for it. The Bloomington sprint feature was the best race I've ever seen.:applaud:

But I bet there are a lot of hotels in Lafayette and Crawfordsville that are still trying to figure out how their shower drains got so clogged with mud.:O:

Re: Kamp/Boswell Updates???

That was pretty dusty to say the least. iF YOU DON'T SPEND DAYS PREPARING AND PUTTING DOWN WATER TRUCK LOAD AFTER , TRUCK LOAD well that is what you get. And then on the other hand
I know for a fact that Jiggs doe's that and he still lost the track, so I guess thats just part of it. Mother nature plays a very big part, with the heat and all. I know you are all going to say well it was hot there at the other tracks also, but they didn't have that problem. Well lets all get in their shoes for one nite. We will probably want to shuck them off pretty quick.
