Ever been to the Canadian sprint car nationals. LOL. Six car invert in heats, and 6 heat winners start top six in feature. That screwed Jason Barney in 2007, when he had to start 5th in his heat, finished 2nd, and on leader's tail at finish, and had to start 11th in feature. Finished 2nd catching Steve Poirier at the end who started on the pole.

After tonite, I think I am done with waynesfield. I have tried to support them but they don't seem to have their act together.

Heard they got alot of tweets,e-mails & such about the qualifying & heads up start & they decided to do what the fans wanted. Which was invert the heats instead of just the feature. The wheel was spun & it came up 6. Heats were dandy's with a couple of sleepers like Luke Hall & Kent Wolters. They should have went with 3 classes of cars or stop doing all the damn b-mains. Maybe since he's a farmer he thinks everyone can go on 4 hrs sleep. Just between the sprints & mods they had damn near 100 cars.

cwfan08 9/17/12 2:44 AM

Re: hewitt classic ??

I thought the feature was pretty good..but def a long drawn out evening..no need for 4 classes especially just between the sprints and mods they had 92 cars. I knew there was no possible way to qualify at 5:30 and start racing at 6..I will go back but they def need to figure some things out..

How can people get mad because there was "too much racing" and it lasted too long? I absolutely love racing and could watch it every night. I spend nights at home when there isn't a race going on watching videos online because I want to watch more racing. It just always amazes me that people complain because it lasted too long. We all are big fans or we wouldnt be on here talking about it all the time. Not trying to start any issues. Thanks

They can get mad because they didn't get what we promised.
First off I can't thank all the people who came out to support WRP. I was so pumped up when I got to the track and seen the line of haulers. But things quickly unraveled. We started to lose time and couldnt make it up. We looked very unorganized and unprofessional. There were a few things that were beyond the tracks control that added to the long night. But being a representative of the track, I know ultimately it was the tracks fault for all the negativity. Waynesfield isn't Kokomo. I know that. But I also know that we learned sooooo much lastnight. And I know we will continue to make corrections and get better so that we can be compared to Kokomo in a more positive way. Again, thank you all for coming out. It's 5:30 am and after 2 1/2 of sleep I'm on my way to work. But I have great memories of lastnight which ill have forever. I hope it wasn't a total loss. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves atleast a little bit.

Im not complaining about anything you did wrong at all, just amazed me that fans complain because there was to many cars and it lasted too long. I give you credit for finding your own faults in the night and admitting to them. They are learning experiences and im glad you are taking them as that. Congrats on the great turnout last night and again I was not complaining about you guys at waynesfield

I agree with Double Checkers 100%. We had many mistakes but thankfully they are mistakes that we can build off of and correct in the future. I apologize to the fans for the later than advertised times and to the drivers for our software glitches that were uncovered last night. We will correct all of these before next season and we take full responsibility for last night. On the positive side we would like to thank all the fans, drivers and crews that took time out of their schedules to honor one of the greatest racers that we'll ever see. Jack Hewitt thanks for all of the great memories and thanks for getting into the seat one more time to put on a show for the fans. You are a true hero in racing.

double checkered 9/17/12 12:56 PM

They can be angry. They are paying customers who were not entertained because of reason: x,y,z. I am a fan first. I also would be upset. This forum is just a place for people to voice their opinions. Although I know that there is no way to make everyone happy, I value the feedback. I sure wish there were 6 pages of positives. It bothers me that I have to "apologize". With the turn out last night, I saw great potential. I hope a winter is long enough to get the bad taste out. I know next time we will be better prepared. Hopefully we get that chance to prove it. Thanks again for all the positives and negatives. They both help to make us better.

Life isn't perfect, and never will be.

You must be doing something right with having over 50 sprint cars in the pits. And the last thing for Waynesfield, I'm 100% impressed at the fact that you take ownership for things not being perfect. that's awesome, and very rarely happens in this day and age.

jamesmotorsportz 9/17/12 2:42 PM

I think next year it would be good to have sprints midgets and mods at the Hewitt classic but good show can't wait till next year

I also attended the Jack Hewitt Classic last evening. Yes it was not perfectly organized and ran rather late. BUT: 137 cars took hot laps. The quality of drivers was very high and the racing was exceptional. I am thankful that Waynesfield honors a legend like Jack Hewitt and provides a venue for real sprintcars.

I can be mad because it was a Sunday night and I have to report to my place of employment on Monday morning and my kids have school. Thought the people running the show there would have enough sense to run the sprints off as quick as possible and get people on the road no later than 9:00 but was badly, badly mistaken. Apologize all you want, but I wont be back.

I thought the problem was starting 1 hour late. Once that happens you can't get the time back. I would go back, mainly because of the comments today from people like Jeremy, who are doing what they can to improve the product. I left after the B's. Call me a wimp if you want, but a 2 hour and 40 minute drive, and having to work, I did what I had to do. Great field of cars. Thanks to everyone who showed up.

i enjoyed the announcer, he had t-mez in every single race that was run/ n he needs to memorize: turns one and two to my right, turns three and four to my left.:10:

fasster23 9/17/12 11:46 PM

I haven't heard anything else about Hewitt in a car. Did he run the main? How'd he do? If he did and all people can talk about is the race took to long then I don't get it. I was hoping to drive from Kansas City and pickup my buddy in St. Louis just so we could watch the legend in action. Unfortunately it didn't work out.

personal opinion; time trials are a waste of time and track surface/ the best way is to draw for positions and race your way in!

I do the 160 miles and home from Gas City and I do the 190 miles and home from Kokomo. I do this for the friendly folks and the superb racing. I am confident that WRP can streamline this event with fewer classes/features only and dew Hewitt proud with a spectacular non wing sprint car show for 2013 and beyond. WRP is a work in progress and the lessons learned Sunday will allow the track to improve and grow non wing sprint car racing in Ohio. Thanks to all of the great drivers, crews, and car owners for bringing your national level teams to WRP. It was appreciated by all who were in attendance.:8:

:11;

I would agree if it were a weekly show, but with all the top tier talent they had it was fun to watch them showcase their skills in qualifying. Thanks for 1 lap only though.

Also, because of the 6 car heat invert, the heat races alone were worth the price of admission. Sensational heat races! A great feature battle between the sports top two young guns (one Indy, one stocker bound, unfortunately). Then to top it all off with a very memorable victory lane moment with Kyle and Jack. Priceless!

Qualifying didn't hurt the track. I think if this race were ran in July it would have had a bigger impact on the racing surface, but with cooler temperatures the track stayed beautiful all night. Cars were racing everywhere (top to bottom) with a nice cushion in 3/4.

I am a Waynesfield regular and am so very greatful to all the folks at Waynesfield and the BOSS Series for bringing traditional Sprint car racing to the Buckeye state!

I would like to see 3 support classes dropped from the regular show, and only 2 classes for the specials (Reynolds & Hewitt). Otherwise, thanks for the great show that I will never forget!

I agree, this is one thing I would like for WRP to address this off season. It's not just the pits, sound is bad from the grandstands. I arrived early for a seat up top, as I always do, but watched qualifying from the second row so I could keep up with the action.

Just constructive criticism, Rome wasn't built in a week. :)

I am not an unbiased observer, given that I field a mini sprint for my son at W-field (along with Montpelier, MMSA and AMSA), but I think its important to recognize that it was only a few years ago the track lived off the back gate, providing an opportunity for local racers to compete, with limited fan support. Since Greg Shobe and his staff have stepped back into the promoter role, the quality of the race program has continued to improve, solidifying the track as a major player in the midwest sprint car scene. They have continued to learn from their experiences, and improve on behalf of both racers and fans. A couple examples – I received a return call directly from Greg in response to a question I left on the track voice mail the night before the Hewitt; when my son suffered a minor injury several weeks ago Greg and his ambulance crew went out of their way to make sure he was taken care of; and lastly, we too were involved in a lineup mistake last Saturday, but the staff listened to my concern, validated the information, and made the correction despite all the other challenges they were facing. The minis had a green to checker feature with no cautions, and exciting last lap pass by Lee Underwood for the win, and were done by midnight. I was thrilled to have a chance to participate in a race honoring one of my racing heros, and did not regret the lack of sleep at all. Thanks to Greg and crew for all your hard work, and I look forward to returning to Waynesfield in 2013.

Thanks DB (great initials btw). I wish I lived a little closer to Indiana and all that good non wing racing, but glad Waynesfield gives me a little piece of Indiana on Saturday nights.

I remember the first year they moved to the 1/4 mile from the go kart track. Mini Sprints were the headliner and I believe it may have even been an afternoon race as due to the lack of lighting. All they had for seating was the pit grandstands. Nothing in the spectator area except piles of pea gravel. We stood and watched from one such pile. Aaron Fry was there with three other non wing sprints putting on some demonstration laps (laying the foundation for the BOSS Series, no doubt).

It's important to remember that just 10 years ago this place was a pay to play go kart track. This past weekend they held an event with the best non wing Sprint car drivers in the country and this season they also had a Speedweek show. We're not talking about a place with 50 plus years of racing history. They will improve because they want to improve. They are trying to figure out how to transition from a pay to play facility into a spectator sports venue. They'll get it.

They've had the speedweek show for a few years now. You are right on about how they've been doing things & building it up to what happened Sunday night. I never even went out there until the 4th year. Unless USAC cancels a Saturday ( People in hell want ice water ) for them the date will not change. I could see this race be on a MUST SEE list. Where were Hines, Gardner & a couple of other guys Locals/Boss. This could have easily been in the range of 70 cars. So Waynesfield you need to get some ducks in a row as in multiple formats if needed.
