Figured Jon had them covered, he has won a lot at the Action Track, guess Kaeding was just a little better.

That was an awesome race. That really sucked that Hagen got caught up in spun car. He was on a rail. They were throwing sliders all throughout the field. This place is amazing when the track gets wide and slick!!!!

Not to get off on a tangent, but if folks who follow the sport closely enough to be logged on to a website like this can't figure out the format, how in the heck does USAC expect the casual fan to follow along?

Congrats Bud. Well done Coleman, Brian and Team CGR for a top 5 with this crowd... Nice hustle.

Does anyone know what happened to Clayton's motor? It's obvious that it started smoking and he pulled off real quick. Hope it's not hurt real bad

That is such a good point it should have it's own thread...or even it's own TV show...hahaha

Nothing against USAC...I am sure they have their reasons....but what exactly was wrong with the old format? fully inverted heats, top 4 transfer then take 6 outta the B...all cars in the show get their time back with a top 6 invert...the only hole in that format was that somebody could sandbag timetrials just in the hopes of winning or staying in the top 4 of a heat and making the show...but man the heat races were awesome to watch with the full invert

Seems pretty simple to me once explained.

Actually, I like this new format. Makes drivers get up on the wheel for the heat races and mixes things up for the feature. It makes the heat races mean something. It is not really any more complicated than what you just wrote up. Explaining sprint car qualifying/inversion/lineup process to a newbie has always been a bit challenging. Now keeping up with all of the different formats across the sanctioning bodies can leave one with a headache.

I really wasn't a fan of the format where transfers from the B main got their time back and could be in the top 6. I believe there should be a reward for transfering straight from the heats and this format does it. No matter what format you have, its going to confuse people unless you start everything straight up.

Maybe you can explain to my wife, and the two Austrailian guys, who sat in front of us, how Levi finishes second in his heat and starts 19th in the feature.

Poor qualifying start in front of the heat race, poor qualifying start in rear of field for feature. Looking at Wallsracing post, it looks like two cars missed the show that qualified infront of Levi.

IF I haven't screwed this up, here is how a 24 car inversion line up should look for the heat races.

Heat 1
21 17
13 9
5 1

Heat 2
22 18
14 10
6 2

Heat 3
23 19
15 11
7 3

Heat 4
24 20
16 12
8 4

Feature: Top six times inverted, everyone else lines up on straight up qualifying time. If quick cars miss the show, start position improves.

Cottle had his elbows up last night. BC better watch it or he might lose his ride ;):D

treecitytornado 5/25/12 9:14 AM

USAC changed the format from the old 32 car invert to the now 24 car. I feel they did this because car counts have not been 40 plus consistently for awhile.

Re: Terre Haute Updates Right Here Tonight

Only the fastest 24 qualifiers are inverted...used to be the fastest 32....qualifiers 25 thru 32 are now in positions 7 and 8 in the heat races. I liked the old format better...just seemed (to me) like the heats were better. This format certainly changes the feature starting lineup...
