I respect Danica for what she has demonstrated as a driver. What I question, like many here, is the media attention she keeps getting. I realize it's about hype and promotion and in the end......money. What I have a problem with is the fact she gets all this attention and there are guys out there that have done more, worked their butts off and made the "traditional" sacrifices to achieve the success and recognition they have earned. She has not. Period. And yes, I have raced with quite a few females that quite frankly were extremely competitive so it isn't a anti-woman thing. She wants my respect.....she needs to earn it just like all the other drivers have.....I don't need to be force fed by any organization or the media.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
just like everyone else in here, offering my 2 cents worth. We buy the ppv and enjoy every minute of it. I enjoy seeing the drivers that are always so serious about their job just being able to kick back and relax and laugh and have fun. We all know Danica is a huge pr package that can race, and excluding those of you on here that have put on a fire suit and gotten behind the wheel, she has bigger b-a-double L-s then most of us here. I was fine in a sprint car all by myself on a race track, but when it comes to side-by-side racing at speeds close to 200, my respect to all racers. As stated before, it is for charity to go to childrens's hospitals, so any type of "sideshow" that brings in more cash is fine with me. She'll do fine in the middle of the pack with the usual dirt track guys up front. How can she be any worse then the "jet-dryer killer" JPM a couple years ago? The ppv I want most though is the golden gloves bout with Milka Duno vs. Danica Patrick...now that's entertainment. bob:6:

What I should have said.......Dancia.......I would expect you to simply EARN the attention you are getting. Pretty simple. Just like most of the other racers have done.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
How many females have ever strapped into a dirt late model before and went racing? I am aware of the history of women in WoO, USAC, NASCAR, INDY, etc,.
Not that I follow LM racing that much, but what other women have tried it? |

Re: Danica in the Prelude
I don't fault Danica for any of the issues. It is the american media and their attempts at shoving and shoving what sells. It doesn't matter what it is they will run anything into the ground that produces the most money for their bottom line.

I don't have an opinion about her (or stock cars in general) one way or the other, but if she gets headlines for auto racing then I say good for her. :32: |
Re: Danica in the Prelude
Maybe a good match race between Milka Duno and Danica for 20 laps might spark some extra action.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
The bad part is Tony pays a dirt late model team a set price (I believe $5,000) to field a car for the prelude. I would have to believe she will be in one of Tony's personal cars, but if not I feel sorry for the poor guy that lets her get in his car.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
I think it's going to be fun. Never watched the prelude before. Now I will.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
The more attention that the charity gets who benefits from this the better. If she does OK, more power to her. I'm not much of a fan of hers, but at least she is making herself available for a good cause. She deserves props for that.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
I know the popular thing to do is blame the media for the attention she is getting, but as 4:15 on Thurs., I have yet to hear anything about it other than here. I would say there is more interest here than in the media.

Dirt drivers going to pavement are way better than a pavement driver going to dirt, JMO.

Uhhhhhhh........I did say "most." Little E has won a few but that boy is running on his last name more times than not. Would he be where he is without that last name.....doubt it. But like I said.....MOST.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
Even if she finishes dead last I will giver her kudos for trying to run the dirt. It proves she has more balls than almost all of the other IndyCar brethren.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
Taylor Ferns could run rings around these female drivers and most male drivers. She's the best female driver to come along in a long time.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
Don, put her in that beautiful white #10 and come to the Prairie this summer. We miss you!

Re: Danica in the Prelude
No qualms about her ability to drive on blacktop. It what she says and the way she acts outside of the racecar when things aren't going good. There's almost always someone to blame, someone she would like to beat up (@ Indy) or her usual eye roll look to the sky why meeeeeeee thing. Act like a racer and you will be respected like one. IMO

The sole purpose of this race is to raise money for charities. Last year I believe the race donated millions of $$ to childrens hospitals.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
She must be doing something right. She made 12 million last year. I bet she could care less what any of us think when she is making mo money then any of us lol.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
I just watched some World of Outlaw LM champion quit for the second straight race at Florence once he got passed for the lead. IMHO Danica's got the bigger pair!
|
Re: Danica in the Prelude
12 mil. maybe some mamory gland enhancement would help.
|
Re: Danica in the Prelude
Makes sense to bring the attention getting Danica to Eldora. She already has brought more attention to the race that ever before and that will help raise money. Sure there is other women racers but none have the following and Worldwide PR she has. SO it makes PR sense to do this. I can't wait to she her start practicing soon.

Re: Danica in the Prelude
This thread alone has 4 pages of concern. I think they did the correct thing to promote their charity race!

Veronica McCann, I vaguely remember that name from like 5-6 years ago. Didn't she run Indy lights for awhile? Could be wrong.

Danica's dad TJ ran midgets in the 1970's at Angell Park on the
dirt. She's a below average driver in my book. It will be her 1st experience on dirt at Eldora. Best Regards, John |
