Duke if you were at the sprint races at ORP last year you maybe can understand. No one was in the stands. So they paid for the track rental, then the purse and neither the front or the back gate would have even covered the purse let alone the track rental. Should they be in the business of throwing money away? Do you want to make up the difference? If not then maybe try thinking before flapping yer jaws about it.

you are still going to have all the cars and stars run for less money, because the pavement races still count towards the national drivers championship(the 40 grand)

"Only" $2500? That's still the highest paying pavement series that I know of. As long as they pay decent start money and come up with a owner friendly tire rule, I don't see a problem.

Not if the car owners don't support it. All you'll have is Lease Rides

Wrong again, SuperDuke! You're makin' a habit out of this! Come on man - you're a Buckeye - I hold you to a higher standard!

Raceway Park is actually putting these races on themselves. Sounds like the $2500 number is right, and they're going to work on some cost-cutting rules changes for this series.

Is there, in fact, a TV deal with this for all of the races or are people just assuming it because it's being called Thursday Night Thunder?

I do know the Kroger Speedfest race the end of July for midgets and Silver Crown does have TV coverage. Kevin Miller said at the press conference announcing the additiion of ARCA to the program that one consideration in agreeing to it was the television broadcast. Do the sprint races have TV?

I am very glad to see the pavement schedule as extensive as it is. Let there be more.

Re: USAC Will Run Sprints on Pavement

Will USAC get Hoosiers permission for a longer lasting tire, or will Hoosier do what they think is best. If you want a long running tire call American Racer. I saw a set go 500 laps at the Little 500 once, and win the show. After that they weren't invited back.

If you don't make a tire that lasts more then one night, it won't be worth it to run with the smaller purse. You'll have no chance of ever coming near break even for anyone. The small teams will need that to even think of running.

The one plus is Thursday night races. Some smaller teams from up north may be willing to trek down here. Once again, that will depend on the purse structure.

Ok wise guy if usac keeps losing money how are they going to stay in business? They had maybe 400 paid for grand rapids! Champ race there was maybe 500 paid! Toledo champ car race maybe 1200 if you don't know how too promote a race and its hard work! How are you going to make money??????? And racing on thur nite is another loser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you and mowerman should go help usac! If you can get him sober!

Honest-Sam 12/19/10 4:11 PM

I'll be surprised if it's not the M49 spec tire from 2010.

Kirk mr usac! Can you tell me how much money usac lost promoting races this year??????????? AND YOU THINK $2500 IS RITE TO WIN???????? *** IS WRONG WITH YOU???????? IF YOU PAY YOUR DRIVER 40% OR 50% TO WIN THAT LEAVES THE CAR OWNER $1250 NOW BUY TIRES FUEL PIT PASSES YOU MITE HAVE $200 WHEN YOU GET HOME! ITS COST JUST AS MUCH MONEY TO RACE FOR $5000 TO WIN AS $2500!!!!!!!:10::14::15:

Honest-Sam 12/19/10 4:37 PM

I don't know of any pavement car owners in USAC that are racing for profit. I'm not saying it's the way it SHOULD be, but it seems to be the current state of affairs. I can't see an owner profiting unless it pays 10 grand to win and he wins them all.

Duker, simple economics tells me that you can't be paid any more to win than tracks/promoters are willing to pay. This isn't charity. You know how the deal goes...

Where do you propose the money comes from, oh wise one?

Ok kirk are the dirt races paying $2500 to win? What does usac have to give to a promoter that he can't get for $1200 on a sat night??????? In my day we had the best sprint car driver in the usa! No 1/4 mile tracks! Indy 500 drivers big crowds racing coast to coast! Now its ind. Ohio series! Nobody is knocking down usac doors for a race! How can you do a race on a 5/8 mile for less then a 1/4????? Please tell me!

Honest sam! Then why do you have a purse! Just race your $60000 car for nothing?

Racefan 20 you have to think if you can (the photo fits you!) why would any promoter just tell usac they want to pay only $ 2500 to win?????????? Every one of you experts said it cost to much money to run pavement so now its ok to cut the purse! *** is wrong with you???????

Well, isn't that what's BEEN going on for years? Please read my previous post again. I said, I'm not sayin' it's RIGHT, but it's the current state of affairs. Does this mean that you disagree with my '10 grand to win' theory? I'm pretty sure that a lot of drivers get 50% for a win, so fielding a top flight, winning pavement sprint car for 9 races and 45k is rather difficult indeed. And that's assuming a 100% win ratio. With all of the things that eat a budget, I don't think there'd be much of a profit to show at the end of the pavement series even with more than twice the OLD purse. The folks that are payin' the bills are doing it because they love it. My opinion, not fact. Maybe there'll be some effective rule changes that'll make things a little better.
