Re: New Bid to "Buy The Action Track"

Thank you Jerry for your info on the local scene. I sent an email to the mayor today at Mayor@terrehaute.in.gov
I said pretty much what we all are saying. I don't know if it will do any good, but I don't know how it could do harm.

IMO, if they thought the Fair Board was even close to being sold on this proposal, they wouldn't have done this. And from what I can tell, there will be more backlash from this deal, than a ground swell of support. The 4H (the Fairgrounds' main inhabitant) is already not happy bunch of campers. In fact, we just went through a mayoral ******** that saw a Democratic incumbent lose his job to a Republican challenger, becoming the first Republican elected mayor in Terre Haute, since 1968. And one of the major campaign points was that even though Mayor Burke had gotten a lot done, many of the projects ended up fattening the bank account of Gibson. With that said, considering the public backlash on the previous Mayor, I don't think Duke Bennett, the current Mayor, is in any hurry, to be accused of also being Greg Gibson's lap dog. And Bennett doesn't have to sign off on this, just that supporting it and/or helping push it through could have a high political price.

Not to bore everybody with local ********, just thought I would add a little background for perspective purposes. I don't know how this is going to end up, but the WVFA is a 501c3 Not-For-Profit, so personal profit for board members is not going to be a determining factor here. People go to prison for that kind of thing. The last time they voted on this (last year), it was a unanimous NO. And that was an offer that was almost as big as this one. Plus, anybody that's ever tried to get money out of a farmer knows that Thompson-Thrift and Gibson are unlikely to get this farmer-led Fair Board to sign what is a sweetheart deal, as far as the developers are concerned.

Just My Opinion,

Jerry

Hit the nail on the head my fellow Hautean. I'm surprised they didn't try to get this presented and signed before the ********. They probably weren't counting on the Republican winning the race. Sorry, but any partnership between these groups cannot be a good thing for race fans. The Action Track is last thing on their agenda. Hope the Fair Board respects the tradition and gives Mike King and his group a chance to succeed.

I've signed the petition, all the way from AUSTRALIA. I hope my vote counts, as I have been to the T.H.A.T about 10-15 times over the years, and I just love the place.( I haven't been there since the late 90's though). :)

I added mine yesterday will comments as to why. I think they are going to get the hint since there will be so many people signed from many different parts of the country. Should be obvious this is an issue that is not just a city of Terre Haute issue only.

Remember, if you address any of these folks, the Fairgrounds is owned by a private non-profit group (WVFA), which serves the people of the Wabash Valley, but is not taxpayer supported.

Thanks Gang! Keep pouring it on. This Thread has had over 2800 hits. That proves you guys care. What we need is about 4 bus loads of people to show up at the next board meeting. We ALSO NEED to Hear some Support out of USAC on this. It takes more than USAC to make things work at The Action Track but they should be at the Hart of things. USAC should make keeping the local tracks in Indiana a major part of there mandate. After All, its these local tracks in Indiana that has built them up. I think its time they play a bigger role in helping with there survival...... Come on USAC,.....wanna race........Wolfe-e

Great Job Gang! Over 1400 signed in 4 days but don;t let up. Tell your Friends and get some of the other Race Boards working as well. The More the merrier is the theme....... I Want to Thank KO and the Gang out at the FairGrounds today for the Chance to Plug things about Terre Haute as well. Not to mention the chance to talk about the Mods and The WolfPack Challenge......I saw Bob Sargent there today as well but I didn;t get the chance to talk..... Looks like the show was a great success as usual..... Story Tellers should be syndicated for prime time as far as I;m concerned..... Heck for the most part, I didn;t see anyone even Want to Kill Robin Miller, today at least,,,,,,well it was still early..... Great Job to D.O. and K.O. and JudO and JunO and JackO and......well,,,, you get the picture..... Its History Folks, just as Honest as the Biggest Lie they can remember, as True as a Racers Hart and as Long as they Draw Breath........no doubt about it.......these guys will always..........wanna race........

The petition is at 2284 as I post this. It seems to get a shot in the arm now and again but I think everyone has done a Great Job getting on Board with this... I still havent heard any word on When the next meeting is. Hopefully we can find out and get someone there. Greg Stabb was at the Harf Banquet and while I didn;t get to talk with him personally, He said that if anyone could share any info with him, to please give him a call at USAC. Hopefully, Mike King and Co. will get things signed soon and we can talk more about Racing and Less about things like this... Again, Thanks to All of YOu who have shown an interest in this............ and a Big Thanks to Bill and IOW! Wolfe-e

Re: New Bid to "Buy The Action Track"

I just wanted to end this thread with my thanks to everyone for there support. I just listened in to the live show with Mike King and Co. Mike said they have a 3 year contract with an option for 2 more. They seemed to think there was never anything to this deal, saying it was just the latest "offer". Maybe the rest of us were worried over nothing, lets hope he's right. I will be at the track to show my support as always.... Thanks Again.......Wolfe-e
