Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
It's becoming very obvious to me that Don has decided that it's his mission in life to stir, provoke, and complain....IMO, he's just an angry man who looks forward to inciting responses....and he never answers a direct question, but makes a sly remark that seems like an answer, but it's not...
I don't care if he's banned here or not; but he's now on my IGNORE list....if enough of other posters do the same, maybe he'll figure it out that his threads and posts are just a waste of time....and go away..... Sorry, Don, but your tired schtick has worn out any interest from me.....and I'll save you the trouble of responding....I know that you don't care what I think........ |
Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
1 question, if everyone wants an indoor dirt race, why don't promoters look at the silverdome? Hell they used to race late models in there. The building was rentable last year. My take on kemper, if it wa sin my back yard, I would be there, but its not my cup of tee to travel that far. I will give Don a little bit of credit, last year when this show happend, it was pages and pages of pissed off people. They complained about everything. not saing that anyone who has posted here was one of them, but the event sure got alot of bad press last year.

Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
One of their main problems was twice the number of expected cars showed up.What a problem for a FIRST TIME EVENT TO HAVE.
I think I left Saturday morning @ 1.am not caring if I saw the A main or not.But when I called for results Saturday at 9.am I got "getting ready to push off B main".So back to the Area for Friday's race(which wasn't bad once the guys that wanted to spin each other out and beat and bang were off the track). |
Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
I just want to point out a few things here. I have been a dedicated promoter of midget races, mostly of the indoor variety. We have had 20,000 people at the RCA Dome twice earlier in this decade.... But I have promoted some outdoor races...In fact I am still proud that I promoted the race at Columbus Motor Speedway in 05 that Bryan Clausen won his first National race..and made himself the youngest National winner ever... I ran that race despite the temperature dropped into the 40's from 70 degrees earlier in the week, and it was raining north of Columbus...I took a big loss...I tried to expand sprint and midgets into Columbus in 06, only to have rain...and a larger loss...I had Ryan Newman lined up....I expanded Midget week to 4 nights at Kamp in 07, with some success...and everyone knows what happened at Union County...although we did have 14 midgets and 14 sprints compete with some pretty good racing. I apoligize to fans that it didn't work out as expected. I have had a hard time finding good dirt tracks to promote with. This has all been dissapointing...The Union County race is a nightmare..burned into my memory..I will never forget the mistakes I made there.
I have to stand up for the Rumble In Fort Wayne here...Our track has proved fine racing in the winter..with plenty of action...Tony Stewart has won it 6 times...in a Munchkin yes....BUT....I have seen Tony take a Vogler Chassis to the front, in one of the most amazing displays of driving I have EVER seen...It gave many chills...and even brought a few I know to tears on seing that talent on display. Some here (INCLUDING DON MOORE) seem to diminish Tony's wins by saying it is all about the Munchkin...Thats ********....He has won 5 times at Watkins Glen...THE GUY IS GREAT...Quit giving the Munchkin all the credit!....Otherwise the Munchkin has IN NO WAY DOMINATED. Stewart had the left front of the Wild Goose up in the air 3/4's of the way around the track at Fort Wayne.... We have had entertaining races with Tony Stewart and Lou Cicconi each pulling off spectacular 360's to keep running last year...We put a spotlight on the 600s...Karts and quarter midgets...on a pretty good size track when you measure it off. I am proud of the veteran..and young up and coming drivers we have had..including guys like Dakoda Armstrong, Bryan Clausen in the 600's...Brad Loyet in the 600s...it goes on and on the talent on display...year in and year out....Geoff Kaiser..the HOSS Series champ of 08 in Don Moore's car...Matt Westfall in a Vogler Chassis.... Erik Rudolph from the east coast...Remember his name....JON STANBROUGH...DAVE DARLAND The sentiment about..."If Rumble Series events were all on dirt..I would be at all of them"...is ironic...It is that lack of interest in pavement races that has some of the pavement events in trouble. I really respect Chuck...but it is that attitude...that really has put a question mark on pavement racing. He is not alone with that sentiment. The question is " Do fans here want pavement racing?'..... Now in regard to Don Moore...Don has been correct in what he has said about the high costs of midget racing. I think the sport would be better off if some of his ideas were listened to. That being said...I have also had my disagreements in the past with Don..and I disagree with him here. DON...Do not put down other midget races in public...If you choose not to go...keep it to yourself..not on a public forum. You made a mistake by trashing it here. WE in all of Midget racing need to be positive...lets not tear each other down. WHY TAKE SHOTS AT FORT WAYNE? FORT WAYNE IS A MIDGET RACING TRADITION. Here is a video of last years action: http://www.highvistavideo.com/Video%20clip%20page.htm Remember...we need both DIRT and PAVEMENT..That mix made Stewart, Gordon, Foyt, and Andretti GREAT. I saw the youtube video of Bryan's win last year...and thought he did a great job of running the outside groove to win at Kemper. Best of luck to everyone for the rest of the 09 OUTDOOR and INDOOR racing season: Best, Tony Barhorst rumbleseries.com |

Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
Tony I just want to let you know that I am not bashing the Ft. Wayne race in any way. I am only trying to make a point to Don that he is having double standards. Putting down a small indoor track but yet races at Ft Wayne and DuQuoin for less money. He is always complaining we have to fix this thing and here is a promoter putting up good money and he is complaining. It just doesn't make sense to me. There are two ways to fix the problem larger purses for the teams so they can afford to compete, or lower the cost of racing.

Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
Brisky...I understand the reason you mentioned us...I won't take it personally... I think Don overshadowed all the times he was correct in regard to the costs of midget racing...by this un-productive thread...Don cares about the racing...but he was wrong here...Nothing personal to ANYONE...Let's go racin.....On DIRT and PAVEMENT.
The more racin around Christmas..The MERRIER.. I am glad we are half a continent away from each other though. Tony Barhorst The Rumble In Fort Wayne Sat..- December 26- Sun.- December 27- Matinee show - 3:00 P.M. Rumbleseries.com |
Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
I am going to make one more statement on here and that is it. First of all, you people that have posted in this thread negative comments, bashing, mud throwing etc etc need to do your research.
1. Last December, there were countless posts about the Kemper race on IOW, MM and other message boards with very few positive posts to say the least. Go back and read them. They are available on WEB. This is old, old, stale news about the race and the place. I didn't write any of it. I wasn't there. I also talked to some very good friends in Kansas City who were there and were participants. They told me, in their opinion, that they saw no way that it would happen again. Again, their words not mine. I also talked to a few dozen drivers and owners in Tulsa a few weeks after this race and all of them told me the same thing. Again, not my opinion. And guys, I didn't share any of that with you. It's really none of your business what some driver or owner said to me. Yesterday, I read on a web site that the race was happening again. My reaction: I'm stunned. I posted the announcement and my reaction: "I'm stunned." and I still am, if only because of the history that was posted on this message board and others last December, Again, not my opinion. Go back and read it. It's all there... old, old, stale news, people. I'm a veteran teacher with 35 years of experience. On my last evaluation before I retired, I scored the highest rating in all categories. I may come from a different world than a lot of you, but I hope you don't want your teachers that are supported with your tax dollars sitting in a classroom and not probing the minds of the students. That was my job for 35 years and I did it well. Now to post number two on this thread: GO BACK AND READ IT IOWHEELERS. Tim Clausen asked the question: WHY? Well........ If someone asks me a question, I'm going to answer it and I did. I've already explained that I'm stunned and still am. I didn't share with IOW why I was stunned... BUT IF YOU ASK, I GOING TO TELL YOU. Enough said??? If you ask somebody a question, DON'T YOU WANT AN ANSWER? If you don't want an answer, DON'T ASK. If you're a student and you ask the teacher a question, do you want an answer or do you want the teacher to sit there and ignore you? OR DO YOU ONLY WANT TO HEAR THE ANSWER THAT SUITS YOU???? you can't have it both ways IOWheelers. I don't play games with people. If you ask a question, I'm going to give you my honest answer. ENOUGH SAID??????? |
Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
Many times the written word is misunderstood...Looks like Don was thinking out loud...That is the definition of a forum....It is fair to bring up the subject...Don...it was the "bathroom" comment that got the attention.
Without controversy though...how many people would be coming back to this forum as often?... Let's not take it too serious... |

Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
Tony, First read the PM I sent you. This is in addition to that.
At no time did I say the Rumble series was bad. Man there was racing all day and half the night. The PA could be louder but I don't hate it. Its hard for me to get to FT Wayne, Expecially when ICE is still covering the streets yet its a 50* day LOL No, Im not a particular fan of pavement racing. There are those here that would rather have pavement racing and thats cool by me too. And there are those who are die hard BOTH fans. To them is say thumbs up. Yeah Tony pulled the LF a bit, I guess the no rooster tails thin applys. Nobody can tell me a rack and pinion doesn't have a advantage over a drag link. Expecially in very short track racing. DM's car and Matt Westfall were very competitive. and a couple others at the FT W show I made. Call me crazy but weren't Munchkins 1-3 in the feature? I don't discredit the drivers, Not one bit. Chuck, again. I like the Rumble series, Great event. Expecially for the up and comming as well. Dirt would add the WILD FACTOR to it and its just MHO. Quote:

Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
Charles,
I always enjoy your posts...Your one of the good guys... Just a clarification...Stewart had the left front up most of the way around the track at Fort Wayne in 1999 in the Vogler Chassis Wild Goose...Started from the back of the pack..17th...and put on a CLINIC...going to the front...It was as exciting as anything I have seen..The Munchkins have finished 1-2 before...but conventional cars have been 123 more often by far....The Munchkin ran twice with us at the RCA Dome.....And David Gough one one..Dave Darland the other in a Shores VW....Why didn't the Munchkin breeze to victory then? Just pointing out the facts.. |

I met Don Moore at this event. He was far from all negative as seen on this board. Sung the national anthem and loves the country and racing. I'll never speak for him. But I found him likeable and receptive. Just for owning and trying to race is a statement of his love for the sport. For that I say THANK YOU as I do to all who put on a show for us. Chuck |

I think it is fair to discuss what people have seen at Kemper Arena last year...How many people would you estimate were in the grandstands?...I find it hard to tell from video.

I am a Bryan Clauson fan..that's why I had no trouble dropping his name..I was thrilled he won my race at CMS in 05...It put a race that had been hit by bad weather into the record books for a long time.
I hope Tim rents all his cars at Kemper..Thats good for him...good for the economy...I am just saying it's no wonder he jumped on Don to cut off the debate...This thread has made more people aware of the Kemper deal...Plus I gave Clausen's rental business a plug....Good for them... How much do the cars rent for?...What damage deposit? |
I for one am glad it was pulled. I was tired of people who don't go to races telling how f'd up it is where I spend my entertainment dollar. Talk about beating a dead horse.
Hi Brent, just a few clarifications: 1) I go to plenty of races here in Minnesota. Arlington, Redwood Falls, Jackson, it's winged stuff but what can ya do? I didn't press that issue with Kirk because I assumed he was talking about USAC races in Indiana. Of which, no I don't get out that way too much. 2) Please go back and read every single one of my posts in the Kevin Miller thread. Then copy/paste my exact quote as to where I told you, or anyone else, where to spend your entertainment dollar. Just a tip, if you're gonna accuse someone of a quote, it's best to provide a link, or copy/paste their quote. Otherwise you're just putting words in their mouth. Peace brotha, :31: David. |

Peace brotha, :31: David.
No offense, but you wern't one that really bothered me. I just quoted you becuase you brought up the subject. With that said when a guy goes on and on about what is wrong with something, and then posts that he dosen't go but to one race a year. Once again I am not saying this is you, but a lot of the posters on that thread fit that description. Those people really drive me nuts. Hope I did not offend you. |

I defended it because this promoter IS PAYING A GREAT PURSE and PROMOTING THE HELL OUT OF MIDGET RACING in his area... . and its time that we who actually race stand up for those and with those who are allowing us to race. And I am sick and tired of seeing our races torn down by our own community ... Get out of your back yard and talk to the people in other area's of the country and you will see that most are mystified how we can have such great racing but yet the events the races the promoters get torn down by our own ... I just don't get it ... By the way some one mentioned to me today about your and Don's motives and after reading this post it makes sense ..... Tim Clauson |
Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
So this has maybe been covered, but are midgets AND mini sprints coming back this year? If so, that's a good ways' off and I'd like to try to find at least a mini sprint and/or midget to drive there. Thanks for any info. :6:

Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
Tim...I have no motives..I really cringed when I saw Don's post...and I knew it invited people shooting back...I have NEVER, EVER torn down another promoters event..The KC show is no competition..There are more than enough good drivers to go around...We run pavement cars...no problem. We had Bryan Clauson racing 600s with us before he made it... We have a few more hot shoes on the way up.
My posts have been positive...whats to argue with? Where have I been negative? Tell me what my motives are? The only reason I am posting here is..people were taking shots at Fort Wayne. It looks like you have a lot of interest in RENT-A RIDES....I am just interested...as the public is..How much is a rental?...Crash deposit?....That way we can pass the word along. Let us know. You guys have to be the team to beat in KC...Good luck there...Let us know who you rent to...I will be rooting for them too... |

But my sole purpose for posting in this thread was again standing up for the event and the gentlemen who are promoting the event. Again the second day last year was great racing once they (smoke) figured out the track, and they are paying a fantastic purse just like they did last year and at US36 Speedway a few weeks ago. I wonder what would happen if we all who are involved in midget racing took a more active and positive role as it pertains to promoting our sport. Tim Clauson |
Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
I have been to both midget races Scott promoted . Scott got schooled at arena race . I'm sured it going to be much better this year. He is willing to put out the bucks for a quality field of drivers and cars . I will return there in Dec .
I would like to attend the Rumble also.I promoted a midget race in 1986 . I will always respect any person who does the same.Everyone needs walk in thie shoes a day befor blasting away. |
Re: Night Before Midgets.... Again!
Tim,
I agree that we need to work to lift midget racing....we all need to be at least on the same page,,,if not working together. In fact...we all need to do the same in all of American life..Let's build it up...not tear it down.. I have learned one thing in this business...Do not hold grudges...because you will be suprised...I have friends today...that were my enemy in the past.. Remember FANS...as Bryan has proved...YOU NEED DIRT AND PAVEMENT! Another reason for posting..the lack of interest in pavement racing..is ALARMING...and if it does not improve, CLASSIC races will be gone. This is an area where we ALL need to work together. Tim...How did the US 36 event turn out...? Was it well attended?...How did they promote it media wise? |
