Understood -- anyone else think this could apply to DM as well?

Derek, who's waiting for a response informing me of just how unintelligent I am.

Duke, despite the fact that you claim to have not, you addressed Rob Hoffman directly by saying this:

"(Just my $.02. - Rob Hoffman)

IF YOU WIN BOTH RACES YOU WILL BE RICH! MONEY IS NO PR0BLEM TO YOU!"

I realize it is easy to forget little things like that you decrepit old man, but the fact that you can't remember what you just said gives your participation in this thread some semblance of reason. That you don't realize your folly in this discussion is easily explained now, seeing how you are obviously out of your damn mind.

As for my background in racing, I first went to a track at the age of 8. I have been hooked ever since. My father owned a race team shortly thereafter, and drove for a few years himself. I became an official at a local racetrack in the foothills of California at the age of 10, running the scoreboard and being in charge of signaling the flagman for the white flag, and then by the age of 14 found my true passion...Shooting video of auto racing. I have been at it 25 years, and if I do say so myself, am one of the, if not THE premiere auto racing videographer on the planet. I am VERY good at what I do. I have been responsible for a sizable portion of the short track highlights provided for television over the past 15 years, and am THE ONLY videographer who shoots every event today just like Dick Wallen did...I treat EVERY race I shoot as if it is a historical event, because it is. One day, when I am long gone, my footage will be floating around for people to reminisce about the good old days, much the way Dick's videos do now. So, in essence, while I have accomplished a great deal, and have had a great career, the true scope of greatness that is my body of work is still yet to fully reach it's potential. The upside on my career at this point is enormous. The best days are yet to come.

Unlike you, whose "glory days" (if you can call them that, I use the term loosely) are but a distant memory. Memories you must exaggerate in order to attempt to have relevance now, I might add. You are pathetic. And please, stop asking me to kiss your ass. You couldn't get another human being anywhere near it, and no amount of begging will change that, old man. And we all know it...

Alright. I am headed to California. Swipe away at me all ya like, but I assure you, it has no effect on me whatsoever. I just consider the source.

This has been fun. Good day to all.

OK..... I encourage everyone to do just that. There is an excellent website that has statistics on drivers.... Eckert's Open Wheel Times. I typed in the name Duke Cook.

http://www.openwheeltimes.com

Go to the Search Race Results. I encourage everyone to do it for themselves. However, here is the synopsis:

Total Races: 110 A Mains: 110 Wins: 1 Top 5: 17 Top 10: 43 Top 15: 67 Top 20: 89

There are your stats, Duke. I think they speak for themselves........

Speaking of cut in purse, why dose'nt Duke talk about his days as a promoter. More than few drivers came up short at the pay window.:moon::thumbsdown:

So whats USAC pay for the points championship? Theres your money maker or breaker in this.

Good luck to HAR and Coondog in the Hunt!

P.S. This was made as a reply to a first page post. Is a honest question and honest best wishes. Reading the rest of the thread afterward. OH VEY!

Dean's claim to fame is that he is darned good at his chosen profession.
The guy I stooged for never ran 'stones on his sprinter, so I cannot comment on your abilities at your real profession. But I did go to a bunch of sprint and SC races "back then" and I can clearly recall that your abilities as a driver were never close to Dean's talents as a videographer. IIRC, your only real claim of success was quick time at a USAC event at Eldora once -- everyone thought the clocks broke.

I couldn't agree more with GPracing6 this has been hilarious. Dean, thanks for promoting the sport and allowing us to view the highlights. Have a safe trip west and we hope to see some highlights soon.

Not that it matters one bit in the grand scheme of this thread, but obviously Duke ran more than 110 races in his career, and certainly won more than one solitary feature.

Open Wheel Times is an amazing collection of information (and one that's growing, getting better and more accurate all the time -- there's absolutely nothing like it), but naturally it is riddled with holes. For example, my grandpa won over 100 features in his career, yet none of them appear in the database. Not because Kevin's work is sloppy by any means, but because it becomes increasingly difficult to gather statistics as you travel back in time as I've tried to do occasionally. And Kevin's not looking for just Ron Fisher's stats -- he's trying to catalog every pertinent sprint car race ever run.

Quite an undertaking, indeed.

Re: 2008 oval nationals purse

It's a shame that a little more respect isn't given here to Duke, weather you like him or not, he ran Sprint Cars when it meant something to run a Sprint Car. I was there the night he won his only USAC race, and I admit I am not the biggest Duke Cook fan in the world but I was cheering for him as hard as I could when he passed Bigelow in the Armstrong mold car (on I think the last lap?) for the win. If you guys weren't around back then you have no idea what Sprint Car Racing was compared to today. There is no comparison! I think the deal with Rob Hoffman was supposed to be a joke and you all took it wrong. Take it easy on him he is part of the history of Sprint Car racing
