The Hut 100 has always been one of my favorite races but unfortunately, (or fortunately if there were only 22 midgets and no IRL celebrity race), I could not go because Eldora was running the UMP Nationals. I always liked the 11 rows of three abreast. I still remember my first in 1972 including a four-lap trophy dash won, I think, by Pancho Carter. One of my best memories is seeing A.J. Foyt start on the front row in 1976 in one of Howard Linne's car

On Friday at Eldora, they qualified 123 modifieds and 70 late models, eight modified heats and a Race of Champions and were on the way home by 11. On Saturday, they ran six late model heats, three or four consis for each division and two features, the last of which was over just after 10.

For those of you who hate the modifieds, the 25-lap feature ran without a caution. In fact, there were few cautions all weekend. The late model feature was slowed twice -- once for a car driving slowly around the track and the red came out when a driver's engine compartment erupted into flames (BIG flames) as he exited the fourth turn.

And before you ask, Duke. The dust was minimal with racing all over the track. A nice cushion all around and racing in multiple grooves.

Sounds like quite a contrast to Terre Haute.

POWRi paid $2000 to win, $200 to start, $50 to show. I believe this is the minimum they pay for all races unless otherwise scheduled, for example, Gold crown at Tri-city.:thumb

Need a lot more people yelling orders thats all that guy did in the pit tower he didnt need a radio .....how do you think keith kunz felt after they dumped his toolbox

As for the racing, when the midgets were not spinning out, it was good. The modifieds left me wanting to go to more modified races, it was fun to watch. I would like to have watched it from a infield about 10 feet up, I only knew what was going on in turn 1 and 2.

Did they make both the Midgets and Modifieds unload in the infield pit area?

If so, how do you think this might have hurt the outcome of the low car count? Do you think the racers like this "old" practice of having to unload their trailers and part them outside the track?

Myself I am just not for the infield pit area.

Modifieds were outside, Midgets in. There wouldn't have been enough room for both to pit infield.

What ever the reasons for the lack of interest in this years event,car count,conflicting dates or just plan apathy,someone or some-bodies need to get it sorted out.
Bring this race back up to the commitment and respect it deserves.

I know quite a few of the teams were complaining early in the afternoon as they unloaded their tool boxes and pushed their cars into the infield, leaving a trail of tools and/or rims falling off the carts. But I have to admit it was pretty bad ass watching Shane Cottle's Tony Stewart Racing crew thrashing on their car after he was collected in the first lap of the A-Main. Most of the front stretch grandstand on the end of turn four could watch how quickly that crew was able to take out a broken front axle, replace it and the shocks and get him back out before the green flag came back out. The result? He rocketed all the way back to the front in the first 25 laps and led for quite a bit of the race before Cole Whitt got back by him. That was one of the cooler parts of the race for me.

This was year one of the new promoters, I would expect fans and teams simply went elsewhere because of the uncertainty of the new promoters ways. I expect next year to see hopefully atleast double the car count for this particular race.

55 Minutes to run a 20 lap modified race! Good thing they cut it to 20 laps from 30 Lots of people left before the midgets finished. Lots of down time for nothing. Enjoyed the grader and bobcat in the 1st turn, they really knew what they were doing. Not so sure about the rest of the operation.

I like Super, he tells it like it is. Midgets spinning? They ran the 100 laps in about the same time as the 20 lap modifieds!

Duke...Why is it they get over 50 cars at the night before the 500?? Same engines. This was a scheduling thing. The purse structure for the race was an a complete joke. USUC just continues to amaze me.

Look, it's simple. Want a midget to go 100 laps? Let Jiggs make the heaviest track he possibly can, and run em around Gas City for 100 laps. That my friends is a race.
