Re: What we have the Late models...
Lawrenceburg Speedway actuall holds 6118. That would be great if we could charge $30 to get in and fill the stands, but that's no guarantee. No matter how much advertising we do, if there is one single cloud or raindrop in the sky, your crowd can very easily go from 4500 to 900.
The track is responsible for 100% of the purse and on top of that sanction fee. Also, most organizations ask the promotor to pay all or a portion of their insurance prememium, even if you have your own. This can be anywhere between $1500 and $4500. The only way out of this is if your track insurance is through the same company and the same plan as a sanction. That holds true with any event that is not a "regular" event. The Lucas Oil and WOO Late Models don't even cost half of what the WOO sprints cost. And yes, very few drivers and owners actually pay to get in. Most of the teams that travel the sanction get into all the tracks for FREE! I would love to see the WOO Sprints at the burg, so if anyone has any in with a sponsor who is willing to fork up big bucks (appox $30,000) to title the event, Lemmie know! Thanks! |

Very well put Kim......excellent answer to any and all questions

Re: lawrenceburg and the outlaws?
I hate being right.
Thanks Kim for the clarification. Dave said he wouldn't rule it out but its gonna take either sponsorship or a outside promotions. I remember about three our four years ago right before the WoO-NST split that some track in South Dakota held a WoO show and they had a grand total of 9 cars show up. Think it was Grand Forks not sure. Not saying thats the norm and don't know what happened but he vowed off the WoO forever after that. Chuck, Even the threat of rain and high travel cost are enough to keep many these days at home or closer to home than traveling. |
Re: lawrenceburg and the outlaws?
kinda makes you stop and think though.... It takes nearly 100k to put on a WoO Sprint car show yet they still have close to 80 dates this year. Even though their stock value may be in the crapper they still after all these years seem to be doing something right. USAC should be jealous. Wings or not its still gotta be pretty nice for the competetors putting on the show to not have to pay to get in.
The new million dollar Laweranceburg speedway can't afford a WoO show, but they can afford to put on non-wing sprints every week? Maybe the non-wingers are lowballing themselves? |

I could see USAC rasing price a bit and purse but Id raise the purse thru the pack first. Your mileage may vary. Chuck, saying WoO has file Bankruptcy at least twice. As far as I know USACs barely hanging on and been around almost three times as long. |

you do not offer the fan a complete refund immediately at the track when there is a rainout. unfortunately, this rain policy keeps people away. as a fan, I pay to see a certain event, on a certain day, I have no interest in a rain check. So, if I feel a drop of rain in the air, I will not come. It is simple as that. I understand, I am not expecting a change in policy. It is a shame that there is not a refund policy statewide. As per the discussion of the costs associated with Woo Sprints. I understand the cost figures, but, how do they attract about 50 tracks a year to sign up? What factor am I missing? I wonder if certain tracks get "sweetheart" deals. After all, we say the Lawrenceburg is one of the showplaces in dirt racing, but, it cannot afford a showplace event. Something is missing here. maybe, build 16 luxury suites on the back stretch. rent for $10000 each for the year, or, use them to draw big sponsors - giving them the use of a luxury suite. I think the more pressing problem, the declining numbers of the weekly sprints. |
Re: What we have the Late models...
Myself or Kim have never said Lawrenceburg can't afford a WOO Show. I have been working with WOO to have a show in 2009, So you all need to relax and wait for the 2009 schedule to come out. Every show a promoter puts on is a huge gamble.
Take care, Dave Quote:

Re: lawrenceburg and the outlaws?
I couldn't agree with you more on the rain out policy. If it rains out refund the peoples money.
I went to an Outlaw show at Granite City IL one time and it rained out and they wouldn't give me my money back and I couldn't get over there again to use a rain check. Needless to say I never went back there again. So now if it looks like rain I don't go either. The Outlaws are fixen to price themselves out of a lot of tracks. |

Jiggs was standing at the gate passing out $20 bills to the fans as they left. That gesture got him a ton more fan support than the money he lost by not using rain checks. |
Re: lawrenceburg and the outlaws?
Not to change the direction of conversation, but here goes. Has anyone heard the sanction cost for the "NATIONAL" LUCAS OIL A.S.C.S. shows for next year? From what I have read they usually draw 40-50 cars and put on a good show. I am not a huge wing guy but if this "new" series could come into Indiana and put together a Lawerenceburg, Bloomington, Kokomo, swing I would definitely give that series some of my $$ to see something different. Heard they have some good racing at a lower price point for the promoter, don't know that as fact, just what I have read. Just a thought.
