Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...

I can't wait to try it...I haven't raced on dirt on the computer since DTRSC and the days of onlineracing.cc, where I met Bill. I've tried some of the rfactor dirt mods, but haven't liked them very much so far; I couldn't drive them. I'm probably too used to road racing now. ;) I need to get a new potentiometer (sp?) for my pedals for this, though; I have no throttle currently.

The Midget Racing mod for rFactor has been released! :applaud:

http://www.kiwidirt.com/news.php You need to sign up on site to download.

This looks like the best mod to rFactor yet. Plenty of chassis's, paint scheme's etc. to choose from right off the bat.

Which game is best. I only have DTR2 and have had trouble getting or making a competitive sprinter/midget on it. What is that video from?

Just think it would be cool as it's cool to go to a Kart track and race against some of your mentors. you really get to see how good they are or dirty when that happens :) It's fun

Charles I would definitely be interested in something like this. Sounds like a good time on the weekends or evenings to me!

I bet I've talked to quite a few of you a long time ago then. onlineracing.cc was like crack to me back in the day. Mike Choate, Jake Argo, lots of guys on there, that was a really good community, to bad one day went to the site and it was just gone. Screen name back then was HoLLyWooD79. Jeesh that was a long time ago.

Thought I would put the whole press release up as some poor person (namely me) when to the trouble of writing this propaganda! And it may give some answers to the "what do I need to do" questions.

I will post more info when I get home

Midget cars have been around since the 1930s. Originating on Americas West Coast, spreading fast through the country, and soon as far afield as New Zealand and Australia. They proved to be an entertaining distraction from the hard times of the Great Depression where large crowds would attend their local dirt track to watch these four cylinder engine cars throw dirt and clay skyward. With most of the home built chassis having humble beginnings in barns and sheds across the globe in the 1930s, today’s Midgets are nearly all factory produced and have developed into what would barley be recognizable as the same class of car by those first pioneer, leather capped, goggle wearing, dare devil drivers of yesteryear. Although through any and all the great eras of midget racing one common theme runs through them all, close, competitive, side by side and slide by slide action.

In an attempt to capture the spirit of the mighty midgets and bring a small piece of it in to your home, KDSR (www.kiwidirt.com) has made a modification to the online internet racing simulation game rFactor (www.rfactor.net) by creating the world’s first online rFactor Midget car game, International Midget Cars. Closely based on real world physics and values these cars can be driven offline in single player mode or raced online against the thousands of rFactor players around the world on tracks modeled from New Zealand and American dirt tracks through to tracks that were designed by rFactor community members.

RFactor is an open source game where the cars and tracks are made by the people who race them. The rFactor game itself only has a small variety of cars and tracks, all other cars and tracks can be downloaded for free and added into your game. From Formula 1, Touring Cars, Indy Cars, NASCAR to Sprint Cars, Dirt Late models, even Go-karts and lawn mowers, over 100 different vehicle types and 100s of tracks. These vehicles can be controlled by key board, joystick or a game pad similar to most popular home gaming consoles, or for that next level of immersion a wheel and pedal set is a must. While no longer considered a new game, a reasonable computer is required to play and enjoy rFactor at its full potential

The Midget modification has been widely anticipated by rFactor dirt fans and Midget racing enthusiast alike. Major Catastrophe, well known in the rFactor community for setting new standards in rFactor dirt car physics, took up the job of modeling the popular New Zealand Midget car BREKA chassis for this initial release. The chassis and driver were first made into a three dimensional image, then pulled apart, laid flat and passed on to Darren of DAZA Designs NZ LTD who has a long family association with midgets. Darren was able to create templates of the cars panels, drivers suit and helmet so that it could be distributed to others for painting, with the idea being people would have the chance to paint their very own midget applying a wide variety of techniques to come up with unique one off paint schemes and also the chance to replicate their favorite real life cars, from choosing the color of their rear axle and writing on the sun shield of the helmets visor to the powder coated frame and wheel plug colors.

Already registered at KiwiDirt. RFactor is next, then its time to buy me a new steering wheel. The setups will be difficult for me however. I look forward to this game....... Cannot wait!

Damn, all of that just to find out my system does not meet minimum requirements! Looks like it would be so much too!

Sorry to hear that Jason!

A couple of things.

To play the Midgets you must have a full paid version of rFactor,
1. To play rFactor you must download and install the game from www.rFactor.net .(you maybe able to purchase rFactor on disk at a retail shop but I am not sure from where in the U.S you could get it. (check your computer meets the minimum requirements to play here:
http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=features#sysreqs
2. Install it to your PC,
3. Then using pay pal, buy the "unlock coupon" ($39.99 USD) from www.rFactor.net . The unlock coupon opens up the ability to add cars and tracks into the game ,such as the midget car, and some dirt oval short tracks. Also without the full paid version you cannot race online against others.
4. Then goto www.kiwidirt.com , register, and download the Midget Mod (Modification to rFactor) and some dirt tracks and install them into your rFactor game folder (located in your program files).
5. To control the cars the keyboard wont really do, you will need a steering wheel and pedals or a joystick or gamepad (similar to a playstation or xbox) at a minimum.

This is more of a simulation than a arcade type game, meaning it is not the sort of game that you can just pick up and start driving and instantly be Tony Stewart, it takes some getting used to. It does not come in a home gaming console (xbox/Playstatio) form, its PC only.
