Re: Eldora truck race
I'm kinda' surprised that Frank Kimmel hasn't been offered a ride for the Eldora NASCAR truck race. Over the last 15 years Frank has been the most successful driver on dirt while piloting an ARCA car.
I would also agree with a previous comment that winged or wingless sprinters, midgets, Silver Crown or dirt late model experience logically would probably not equate over to a big heavy NASCAR truck to any great degree. But then again, a racer is a racer is a racer and Kyle Larson is definitely a racer. I've read the qualifying procedure on Eldora's website several times and haven't been able to discern whether or not some trucks running the full truck schedule will be locked in with owner points. If that is the case there will be precious few at large starting positions available to guys like Hines, Larson, Landers and Bloomquist. Regardless of whether this race pans out in the future it will garner the biggest crowd and the most media attention in the history of Eldora Speedway. |
Re: Eldora truck race
Only the top 20 in owner points are locked in the race.

Re: Eldora truck race
I was curious as to who are the ringers, since I know nothing about the truck regulars.
Here are the drivers who are not in the top 25 in the truck points: Austin Dillon Welcome, North Carolina Chevrolet RSS Racing Susan Bates Chris Jones Forest, Virginia Chevrolet RSS Racing Pam Sieg Clay Greenfield Clarksville, Tennessee RAM TBA Clay Greenfield Dave Blaney Hartford, Ohio Ford Reese Towpower Brad Keselowski Jared Landers Batesville, Arkansas Chevrolet Mark Martin Automotive & Peak Oil Eddie Sharp Jeff Babcock Wayne, Ohio Chevrolet BulkMaterialLift.com Chris Fontaine Jennifer Jo Cobb Kansas City, Kansas RAM Driven2Honor.org Jennifer Jo Cobb Jimmy Weller III Hubbard, Ohio Chevrolet TBA Ken Smith Jr Heffner Stephentown, New York Chevrolet A. Colarusso & Son Inc. Park East Sales LLC Robert Colarusso Justin Jennings LaGrange, Missouri Chevrolet TBA Mike Mittler Ken Schrader Fenton, Missouri Toyota Federated Auto Parts Ken Schrader Kenny Wallace St. Louis, Missouri Toyota GrimeBoss/GunBroker Bobby Dotter Kyle Larson Elk Grove, California Chevrolet Clorox Steve Turner Norm Benning Level Green, Pennsylvania Chevrolet TBA Norm Benning Ryan Newman South Bend, Indiana Chevrolet Oral B – Aggressive Design Steve Turner Scott Bloomquist Mooresburg, Tennessee Toyota Toyota Care Kyle Busch Tracy Hines New Castle, Indiana Toyota TBA Duke Thorson All of the above might not be ringers, since some of them have a few points in the truck standings, but are not in the top 25. Chris Jones Clay Greenfield Jennifer Jo Cobb Jimmy Weller III Justin Jennings Kyle Larson Norm Benning I was surprised to note that 7 of the top 25 don't have rides. Chase Elliott David Starr Jeff Agnew Ross Chastain Ryan Sieg Tim George Jr Todd Bodine |
Don't over look Kenny Schrader! The man has a lot of laps on dirt and knows how to get around Eldora.

Re: Eldora truck race
I have a feeling it's going to hard packed blacksphalt type track. I got to wondering about replacing the windshields with dirt screens so I contacted someone I know that works for a truck team. He said they were leaving the windshields in with a mud deflector on the hood. That makes me think they aren't planning on a lot of mud flying around.

Re: Eldora truck race
I thought i remember reading this past winter that the trucks would be comparable to driving a dirt modified. Hence giving Schrader an advantage. I also recall seeing Matt Crafton race a mod at volusia during speedweeks. Not sure of his background but dont ever recall seeing him race a dirt mod there any other time. The dillon boys raced mods back in the day. Hopefully its a good race.

I think T Hines is automatically in because of owner points.
