I've always agreed with the Gold Crown/Silver Crown idea.
I'm too partial to the older cars and have not seen the new generation cars run.(refused to)

I thought the race was great! Your podium finishers drove their butts off to get where they finished... Chet came from 10th to win, Cameron started 16th to 2nd, and Fike started 6th to 3rd. Even Jerry Coons Jr. moved from 12th to 6th before he dropped out with 10 laps to go. I guess just watching them come up through the field picking cars off slowly is exciting to me! I was thrilled to see Chet win after having several podium finishes with the PRA the past 2 years! Same with AJ - left off were he did last year with a consistant strong finish! Glad these cars are back with USAC and a big congrats to Chet, Corey & team for finally getting that victory! :respect: Hopefully races to come bring more of these cars back out.:checkered:

I definitely like the old cars better, for looks if nothing else. They also have put on some great races over the years. I don't really think we need open wheel, tube frame cars on tracks over a mile anyway. I feel bad for the owners that bought the new ones.

I was a confirmed member of the "dirt only for Silver Crown" club until I attended a Copper Classic at PIR in the early 90s. Since that event, Grandma Kim and I have witnessed the traditional SCs on pavement at Phoenix, Memphis, Pikes Peak, IRP, Richmond, Orlando, and Gateway. Almost all of those events produced good races. Unfortunately, chances are slim that we will have an opportunity for any SC events at Gateway or Memphis again, and Orlando and PPIR are gone. :(

From a owners point they must get more than 4 pavement races to make it worth putting a car together.6-7 races on pavement for silvercrown and 5-7 races for goldcrown would be a good start. Then I and others could run both,And most would be happy.

First, Congrats to Chet Filip, I have enjoyed watching you race since your supermodified days, this was a great win for you.

Second, a Richmond race without DD in either division is a sad day.

Third, we have debated new generation car vs traditional car for three plus years now. IMO if the new generation cars would have unveiled in Phoenix in 2006 21 cars strong instead of taking two years to build the car count to 21, yesterday you would have watched the new generation car run with a respectable purse. Running the new generation cars at Richmond the past two years increased the purse by $33,500 each year. If we take the new generation car out of the equation (like it never happend) the SC purse should have been increasing at least $2000.00 to $3000.00 a year since 2005, low end $86,000, high end $89,000, yesterdays purse saw a $500 increae to the point fund from the 2005 purse of $79,500.

I personally think USAC has more to address than what the car looks like. Many of you in this thread have good ideas, USAC needs to make cutting the cost of racing and securing a purse where more than the top two or three can break even their top priority.

Someone posted on another thread that the Hoffman team would probably be the only team to break even in the sprint division, I would bet the 3rd place SC team would be border line as far as covering expsenses.

Maybe it was just the coverage on the computer. They seemed to show a lot of single car action and a lot of Chet, miles ahead towards the end. Probably better in person when you can watch the pack dicing. Wish they had a bigger field. :Steer

I think the camera operator had a crush on Fike. That was the only car he followed about 75% of the time.

It was really cool that a real veteran like Chet got the win. Hats off to him. Nothing against the young guns, but I can relate more to the older guys.

For me, I like the old and new SC alike. I have seen both and like both. The new gen car really needs to be the Gold Crown Series, and the old style cars need to be the Silver crown series. JMO

I think it would be a fairly safe bet that if USAC had attempted to secure the types of purses paid the last couple of years, there might have been even fewer races on the schedule this year. With all of the turmoil of the last couple of years, a race promoter might be hard pressed to believe he, or she, would be able to make money by booking such a race.

One thing I've never been certain of is just how much of the added purse the last couple of years was financed by the boys down South. A race promoter who lost money, or at best broke even, the last couple of years would not be willing to make up that difference.

The racing was pretty good for such a small field. Richmond is a truly great place to watch the Silver Crown cars.

I can guarantee that the IRP race will be better than anything we've seen the last couple years....can't wait to see a full field of Silver Crown cars again!
