[quote=racefan20;297044]Just a few weeks ago werent the support class drivers complaining that the track was too smooth and they were prepping for the sprint cars. It reminds me of the 3 bears and the pooridge. Guess you cant please anyone these days. I thought the track was racy and really the crowd wasnt that bad.

Don't know if there's any truth to it at all, But someone told me that when they blast in the quarry, It loosens the turn three area and there's really no way to know it until you start putting 2500pd race cars on it and packing it down.

Like other tracks, I just thought it was from where the cars pitch it and pack it tighter than the rest.

Anyone confirm or deny?

We were there in the early 2000's, and one night they had to totally change turns 3-4, because they almost lost a water truck in a cave in, also heard a few years ago, they were doing the annual toilet cleaning, and came up empty handed, so to speak, the cave in under the toilets, had flushed them clean, so anything is possible. The blasting from the stone quarry does have some impact. It never even crossed my mind until Joe and I talked about it last year.

Some of you might remember a spring that popped up ouside turn 3 last year around mid-summer. The dirt was always wet where the cars pull off the race track. It effected about a 4'x4' area on the surface. (they had a cone set out for a few weeks in that area)

I suspect something very similiar is happening now. I know Spiker dug up a section of the track around turn 3 a few weeks ago and found a couple spots that were very wet.

They are concerned about it and are working to fix the problem.

I work within a mile of so of the quarry and when they blast it feels like a small earthquake in the building, so just imagine how it affects the ground at LPS.

Maybe he better change his slogan. "Come to LPS and have a "BLAST":D:D:D

ya it shakes the water truck out there every week one hour before hot laps just in time to flood the track to keep those heat races easy to score. lol

Heat races have been an issue a lot of the year. The last time I was there the track was good for the heats, but wasnt there last Saturday so I can't comment about it.

As I always said if they wanna dump a ton of water on it, that's cool. Just have to use equipment to work the track in good before the sprints go wheel pack. Need something to pull behind a tractor with a lot of tires on it and a concrete block or something to weigh it down. And roll the track in backwards with that until it is packed tight from bottom to top.
I don't know anything about track prep, but have been to a lot of tracks and this method usually provides a good track. Would like to see how it works with LPS.

There is an aquafer that runs under the track in the turn 3 & 4 area, which makes the ground unstable.

I used to sell water pumps in the construction industry and I tried to sell pumps to Bill Hopton, back in the day. He agreed that if he drilled a dewatering well and pumped down the aquafer, it would solve the problem. But the cost of drilling a well and maintaining the pump or pumps was not cost effective. Plus where would he pump the water to? He could have sent it to the quarry to wash stone, but that would cost a lot of money for the piping.

I did the Sprintcar driving school when Bill owned the track and guess what? I had to dodge the water hole coming out of 4 also. Maybe if Spiker owned the ground he would pop for a pump, but as long as he is a renter I would not spend the money either.
