And that is why so many cars and fans show up to watch. You have to race your ars off to make the show.....It is the only way to make the show.

EXACTLY......thats the way it should be in ALL racing events.

Just got back in Indy from K-ville.... IT WAS AGAIN ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!.... Clydesdale said it all... ya.. i noticed they thanked us too each night that they took our tickets. Fridays races were the best I have seen all year, that place is first class with out a lick of dust floating in the air. The fans at K-ville are the most respectful, classiest race fans I have seen, you dont see drunks passing out before the A-Main like at the Kings or other big races.. Cant wait to go back next year.

When is the best time/place to make motel reservations for next year? I have never been and I'm not getting any younger. Any advice appreciated.

As soon as next years dates are released FRR, there are only two motels in Knoxville and they generally booked on a yearly basis.I was able to stay at one this year,only because my son was working for a WoO team.
I would check Pella,Newton,Oskaloosa or even Des Moines, all are within a hour of Knoxville.Tickets shouldn't be a problem,I walked up to the ticket window and bought mine both nights.Parking is available, sometimes on sidestreets on in peoples yards, parking lots for a nominal fee.
This year was the first year Steve Kinser didn't make Saturday night since 1977, which was the first year they started running wings, Sammy,Danny Lasoski or local racer Terry McCarl didn't either.
A must see is the Hall of Fame Musuem. Hope some of this helps.American Racer for the WoO next year? Time will tell.

The 3 years that I have gone I have always got my tickets and booked my hotel room 2 months in advance in Des Moines, only 45 minutes away, a guy charged us $30 dolla to park in his yard which was a block from the track.

One thing you can do is check out the neighboring towns hotels. Towns like Chariton, Pella, Indianola, Newton. Those towns are only 30-40 minutes away and plenty of places to eat and shop for supplies.
It also doesn't really take that long to get back to Des Moines which has many hotels. There are plenty of events around the track and town of Knoxville during the day so sleeping in another town isn't much of an issue.

Whatever you do you have to stop in Dingus for a drink. I recommend a cold beer, but if you like hard liquor or dont drink at all you have to stop. It is the classiest dive you will ever be in with cool signatures and pictures on the wall and usually always have an old Nationals playing on the tv.
One of the best things of the whole week is the really dont gauge you too bad on food and drinks around the track. Whether you like winged cars or not, every sprint car fan should take in at least one nationals at Knoxville. It is much more than a race, it really is an event and the entire community, except the cops, support it.
