Joe, find some electrical wiring with black insulation with the outer diameter the size of the padded roll cage in your pic of the 1:1 car. Cut lengths and remove the wiring inside the insulation, split the insulation and slip it over the roll cage plastic and it will simulate the padded roll cage.
