Top 5 Gordon Cottle Hunt Levi Wilson

Re: Little 500 TONIGHT!!!!!!
Cottle was real fast, just got kind of unlucky on getting a caution for the second pit stop. Levi also had some bad luck with I'm guessing a right front going down in the last hundred. He had been running solidly in the top 3 pretty much all race.

Re: Little 500 TONIGHT!!!!!!
Another very interesting evening. Eric Gordon drove a masterful race from his 20th starting position to earn his 9th Little 500 victory. He was on the lead lap at the halfway point and just drove a consistent race. Shane Cottle probably had the fastest car but a late pit stop didn't help as he went a lap down at that point.
Shane was able to drive back around Eric but it was too little, too late. Young Jacob Wilson drove a great race and he was in the lead during the middle part of the race. He was on the lead lap and in the top five for most of the second half of the race. He was involved in an incident not of his doing that shuffled him back a couple of laps. He was able to rebound and finish in the top 5. Levi Jones was the pole sitter and lead much of the first half of the race. He was in the hunt until I believe a tire problem slowed him down toward the end. Donnie Adams Jr. also had a good run and was running in the top 5 much of the evening. His car slowed toward the end but he still had a decent finish. A couple of early cars out included contenders Aaron Pierce and Brian Tyler. Another young driver, Scott Hampton drove very well in his rookie start from his 32nd starting position until the motor expired around lap #380 or so. Extremely light attrition as 25 cars were still running at the halfway mark and 17 cars finished the race. A quality field of cars and drivers made for a great evening of entertainment.:32: |

Re: Little 500 TONIGHT!!!!!!
Just back home, was a good night. My friends who had never been loved it and are already wanting to go next year. Only down spot of the night happened in the stands next to us, when the #7 wrecked in 3-4 a part went into the crowd and hit a person, appeared to hit in the head/face area. Person walked to the medical cart on their own but didn't return. As much as I love this race and enjoy this track they need to spend some $$$$$, the fence is WAY too short and let's face it, it's more dangerous to sit in the stands than stand in the pits, not only because of the fence but the boards in the stands had to be installed by Abe Lincoln while he worked his summer high school job.... lol, my friends thought the rest of us were joking when we said we wanted to sit high in J or JJ stands (the tall ones in turn 4) because we wanted to be as far from the track as possible... that said yet another great Little 500 in the books and memories. 500 laps and done before 11pm. See you next year!

Re: Little 500 TONIGHT!!!!!!
Few notes.. 1 i hope the guy that got his teeth knocked out by a radius rod is ok, as well as JoJo Helburg.. 2 helluva show.. I missed seeing Dave Steele getting around there like it was just a normal day in the office.. 2.. Shane Cottle! Consistent, FAST, SMART!!! one of the best saves i have seen when Bloom cut cottle a little short out of 2 and he locked the brakes, got sideways started to go around save it, went thru the grass in 3 back on to track and CONTINUED TO LEAD THE RACE!!! THEN a nice pile up in 3/4 and im still not sure how he managed to get on the brakes and whoa the car up to that slow speed but keep the motor running.. That guy can drive a sprint car on any surface better than anyone i can think of in the present day.. Jacob Wilson, whooo wee that boy was BAD fast.. not that it wasnt expected but this boy drove his ass off.. a little bad luck got him.. Great show..

they do need to do some work on the fence. Im one of dumb ones who sit in the front row every year so im always pretty nervous that im gonna get hit by something one day. It was the most competitive field ive seen in a long time. Almost every car was still running until the first caution. First time since i can remember there wasnt anybody who started ran a couple laps and parked.

Re: Little 500 TONIGHT!!!!!!
I can't believe Gordon wasn't black flagged for the leaking fuel. Thats one of the worst calls I've ever seen. A total disregard for the safety of the other competitors by Anderson officials AND Eric's team.
I'm completely disgusted by my first Little 5 in a long time. Hopefully I won't be back next year. |
