Here's a way to lower your engine costs ... do it yourself. :-)

Seriously, this guy is damned clever (and has a lot of time on his hands). :-)

Note that a couple of the "pics" are movies of the engine running.

I apologize for sending this thread sideways, but guys who can whittle a miniature engine out of a
chunk of aluminum fascinate me. If you happen to own a tiny top fuel dragster here is a motor for you:

To answer your original question, one can finish a night's racing a
little ahead on money. You will NEVER finish ahead for the year.

Payoff after numbskull spins your car out , blocks the rest of the track doing a 360 , leaving the rest of the pack no other option but to run into your stalled machine .... 150.00

Expense - 1040.00 ( Labor is never to be factored in since it`s part of the fun of racing )
Return - 150.00 ( What you tell the wife you made )
Loss - 890.00 ( This is what the fun costs )

Hey!...Hey!... I want to own a sprint car ! ( To the tune of Nickelback`s " Rock Star" )

Well, if you hadn't had the misfortune of being spun and drilled, thus removing the expense of a bumper, nerf bar and axle, by my calculations, you would have only lost $615. Not bad for one evening's work! Granted if you weren't crashed out, your payoff would probably been higher, but you never know. As a fan, I don't know how you teams can do it race after race, however, I am extremely grateful that you do.

Based on what I saw in Jackslash's video clip, I'm guessing that Jeff Bland and his family spent a little bit more than the $1000 or so shown in this example.....

Yeah that looked like a really hard crash. that dang wall jump out and grabbed his RR. Its a shame he and short would have put on a hell of a show.
