Re: Your top five races attended in 2009?

WOW!! Had to get all 9 remaining brain cells going for this one! Here's what I came up with,in chronological order:
1.-Copper on Dirt-Manzanita,Feb. 20-21.
Our season opener, all three USAC divisions on the
half.Hagen in the sprints,Sweet in the midgets and
Kaeding in the silver crowns. At this point, blissfully
unaware of the upcoming closure of Manzy.

2.-Manzanita Finale-Apr.12
Easter Sunday.Capacity crowd (where were you
when we needed you?),Ron Shuman & Leland
Mc Spadden back on the track,Jesse Hockett takes
the Sprint feature and Bobby Marcum wins the "Last
Dance". R.I.P Manzy, you are greatly missed.

3.-KISS Opener-Gas City,May 15
Clauson over Cottle for the win and Chris Windom
from last in the B-main to a top-ten in the A! A
great intro to Indiana racing!

4.-ASCA Season Finale-Canyon Speedway Park,Oct.17
Watching Zach Sawyers go from tail-end Charlie,
after a spin on lap 10,to 5th at the checkers to
win the championship by 4 points! It doesn't hardly
get much better!

5.-Western World-USA Tucson,Nov.19-21
3 nights,135 cars,wing & non-wing.ASCS. 2 highlights
for me:Dave Darland, after experiencing engine woes
in Bob Ream's beautiful 36d and getting into Jim
Massey's backup,going from 13th in the B to 5th in
the A, and meeting a fellow IOWer while tailgating on
Sat.(you know who you are!)

Hope everyone else has some good memories from '09,and I wish a happy, prosperous and safe New Year to all here on IOW. :)

Friday night at Oval Nationals the photo finish was amazing.

Saturday night at Tulare Hanson won but any of the top 4 would have won if there was on mistake.

Midget race at Perris watching Darron Hagen coming from 26th to 1st like a man on a mission....

Hagen's win was amazing as was the Friday night show at the Ovals. Two of the best. I can only add Rickey Gaunt's 4th of July run at the PAS, in the Miller #66. He was on it that night! To bad he caught a rut and hit the turn four wall or I am sure he would have won the feature.

1) First night of the two $10,000 at Lawrenceburg. Watching Damion come through the field was entertaining.

2) Not sure what night it was but it was when Short and Shuman battled for the win at Bloomington.

3) MSCS show at THAT. Great battle between Damion and Stanbrough.

4) Oval Nationals Preliminary night with the photo finish.

5) Sheldon Kinser Memorial at Bloomington, watching Nifflis come through the field was great to watch.

Great 2009 racing season everyone. I can't wait for 2010! :6:

Top 5 in no particular order. Chilibowl, swindell put on a show for the ages. Sprintweek at Kamp, Boat darland whitt stanbrough. Sprintweek tristate clauson jones for all the marbles! Western states midget race mid year at ventura..mitchell kruseman ford swanson four wide at times mitchell won. What I think was his first midget win on dirt. Friday night at the oval nationals was awesome.

5. The Winged sprints at Anderson backed with the UMRA TQs, was a fun night of racing

4. KISS at Gas City in may, was a very good race

3. UMRA, Mt Lawn fan night. Was a good race by the UMRA backed by some local stuff in front of a fullhouse with lots of other side stuff like police demos and spectator drags, the fans were loving it and showing it by cheering and clapping, was like old times back in the 70's and 80's

2. even tho it's a taxi-cab race the Jackson 100 at Brownstown, took 2 days, lots of driving by me and several hours to clean the mud off my car (inside and out due to UNREAL rain the first day that wiped it out) but the feature was the BEST I saw on dirt all year on a track that stayed racy, dust free and multiple grooves for 100 laps of racing.

1. Little 500 at Anderson, always a favorite for me
