Re: The Rumble!!!
I was at the Norfolk show in 77 , I was stationed at FT Meade Md and remember it was a JP promoted event. I remember JP pushin the broom as well as Dana Carter entertaining the crowd. Being from the NY area it was the first time saw USAC indoor midget racing .AWESOME!! :thumb:

Cinncinnati and Dayton also come to mind.

Re: The Rumble!!!
In the past there has been indoor racing at the Island Gardens, Commack Arena, and Nassau Coliseum, all on Long Island. Also Atlantic City, New Haven, Teaneck, NJ, Bronx Armory, Niagara Falls, Pontiac Silverdome, Indianapolis (at least two venues). Of all of those Atlantic City is the only one currently having events.

Re: The Rumble!!!
Was Dave near the front when they got into each other? Still 3rd row outside! Not a bad start for tonight!! Go Dave!!
I'm glad you had a good time! Dad used to take us every year when we were growing up now Dave is one of the racers! To think!:) |
Re: The Rumble!!!
Racegal, Dave had that race won at least 3 to 4 times during the 60 lap main. Bad luck and brain fade from a few others and it just did not work out. After the oil down fire on the last lap hurt Dave. Oil dry in turn one with one to go. Dave slipped in the oil dry in turn 2 and that is all she wrote. Shame to, Dave drove his but off coming from the back 3 times to lead. Tonight is another show. Go Dave.

Re: The Rumble!!!
I didn't think they shoulda thrown the green when they did, but I'm a disappointed Dave Darland fan, so that opinion's biased. :D
I thought it was a great time, and I'm looking forward to this evening. Those karts are just insane. Every time those guys hit turn 1 in a heat or feature, my heart stopped beating. The beating and banging happening with not a whole lot between you, the other karts, and the wall is wild. Those kids in the quarter midgets weren't messing around, either. :D One odd thing, at least to me, was the amount of fans who left in the midget feature after Tony was out. Seriously, had they not watched any of the other cars out there? Up to that point it had been QUITE exciting (and they weren't done yet), and Stewart was only part of that excitement. I thought the Jackslash blog about NASCAR fans at USAC events was goofy at first, but is that really where we're going? A stepping stone, and then a place for NASCAR talent to come and play when they're off? Bringing new fans sounds great, but if they don't take their NASCAR blinders off to see past that #2 and look at the rest of the cars on the track, then leave when things go sour for their guy, have we really gained anything? It makes me glad to see new leadership at USAC talking about really promoting the series. Maybe it will draw some real new fans, not NASCAR transplants who leave in droves when the NASCAR connection is gone. Sorry for that little rant... Anyway, the Rumble was cool as hell, and I'm looking forward to another night. I'll be there rooting Darland along again tonight. |
Re: The Rumble!!!
Saw the USAC midgets run at Freedom Hall in Louisville back in the 70's.
