According to his website, he's like 3 days shy of being 18 and that's one of those tracks the have to be 18 to run on, so he was @ Gas City tonight.

I don't remember that far back. I was just going by how old he is and this:

3.5 Age - Before a person shall be eligible for a license in the United States Auto Club (USAC), and participation in a USAC sanctioned race meeting, such person must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. A driver under the age of eighteen (18) years, but not less than sixteen (16) years of age, who has complied with Indiana Senate Enrolled Act No. 623, or like recognized ACTS of other States enabling partial emancipation of a minor, will be eligible for consideration by USAC for an annual membership/license(s) to compete in USAC National events. On all Selected oval paved tracks larger than 7/10 (0.70) mile all drivers must be eighteen (18) years of age. The partial emancipation process of a minor will apply for events minors are allowed to participate and not apply for these events minors are not allowed to participate.

And I remember Clauson wasn't allowed to run there (I think it was this track) several years ago, for this reason, when he and Coons were locked in a good battle for the midget title.

If you look at last Novembers PIR results on the USAC site it shows he finished 8th. That's a bigger track than Iowa.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it has something to do with the race being in conjunction with the IRL event. I believe this used to be true also at PIR; when the Copper World was ran in March with the IRL.

....not sure exactly why, though.

I'm about 90% sure - Phantom tobacco (Marlboro) sponsorship of Team Penske. All drivers competing this weekend must be 18+.
