Re: A question about "THE BURG"

After months of trying I am finally allowed to post! :) Now that I got that out of the way, I am one who is up in the air on the change to the Burg. I have been going there for the last 20 years and love the bullring. I raced there for three years until kids came along and couldn't afford it. I am afraid that the bigger track is going to make it harder for the local racer to compete which is a big part of why the Burg is so special to many around here. I do know from speaking with Mayor Cunningham that he is passionate about the sport of racing and is excited about trying to make the speedway one of the premier dirt tracks in the nation not just in Indiana. It is hard to complain about someone who wants to make things better especially since there are a lot of people around here that complain about the noise. Regardless of the change, my four year old and I hope to make twenty or shows like we did this year. Thanks for a great year Dave and looking forward to the future.

TripleXXX, I'm not complaining a bit. I just stated a couple of facts:
1. it's going to be slightly more expensive to race on a bigger track
2. if the track is prepared on the heavy side, it's going to be more dangerous.

where do you see a complaint? I'm on "wait and see" mode. We'll be there every race we possibly can next year. L'Burg is our track. As for Kimb? If you reread any posts on that topic, you'll find that my problem (and many others) was with the volume when Kimb was on the Mic. I never criticized her ability or, the job she was doing. Also, I refuse to believe that she was let go due to a post on IOW. I think Dave and his team have done a great job and I can't wait to get started in 2008.

I got a feeling Kimb had some offers and took one.
Dave was nice enough to release her to do IRP shows and such.

Cecil sometimes goes on a rant but who don't? I see good honest discussion here.

Heavy? PLEASE LET IT BE HEAVY, Florence was AWESOME heavy (Something I've rarely seen)

I think it is a neat deal to make the track larger. With Haubstadt, Gas City, Bloomington and The 'Burg we have a glut of 1/4 mile tracks.

Twin Cities and THAT(when it is operating) put on some pretty good Sprintcar shows.

I think another larger track will give the fans and drivers more variety and make for better racing over all.

Agreed! I really haven't seen a good slidejob in years at LBurg.

Maybe we need a NASCAR race, that would equal big money.
What the city wants is the best possible track that will draw the most people to the city. People need to realize what the city has done for the Lawrenceburg Speedway. They have spent multi millions on this track and are spending multi millions more this year and more next year.
How much complaining will go on if the city would just sell the property to a Wal-Mart??
Bottom line is people are afraid of change. I am one of those people.
Its just human nature.
The only beef i have about cecils post is the fact that he says the track could be too fast, HUH??? This is racing....speed is what it is about. Yes its dangerous, it don't matter what size track.
The City of Lawrenceburg Is outstanding to deal with, I have had a great time this year working with them. Mayor Bill Cunningham has done wonders for the track and we should all hope he gets re-elected this fall. What happens if he would be voted out of office and the new mayor hates racing?? scares me.
Thanks, Dave

Dave, if you are saying that's the way I see it - bigger track = bigger races - that is not true. I am saying that those in power in Lawrenceburg see it that way. Speaking stricktly as a fan, 3/8 is fine by me, as long as traditional sprints and midgets are there, I will be. I just hope a 25 lap feature for sprints, which be be a 50% longer distance on a 3/8 track than a 1/4 track, will pay more. That seems like the right thing to do.

Please explain the math to me on 50% longer........I am no math expert but i believe it would be 18% longer.
We could pay out more since its a longer track, but we should charge more then also because you get to see more racing, lol.
Its going to be a long fun winter, Take care, Dave

Here's my math: .375 mile /.25 mile = 1.5 or 50% longer. Show me where I miscalculated. If you made the track a half mile, it would be 100% longer than a quarter mile. Am I wrong about this?

Re: A question about "THE BURG"

WoW Cecil, What did you do to Triplexxx. :angry-smiley-007: The change in the track is just something we will have to give time to make a judgement on. The 1/4 burg seemed to not have a front straight for the past several years, on the 3/8 we will at least see some straights and like an earlier post said some good slide jobs. Am 47 years old and have been going to the Burg for as long as I can remember, it will really be a different look. But we can only hope for something that will be better in the long run. I think we should just feel fortunate (sp) that we still have a track. :applaud: I'm sure the people of Greendale would blow the place up if they had the chance.
