40+ is WAY too low for this type of event. There needs to be twice that. Last year was 71 cars and that was still not enough. USAC is just not doing a very good job with the event. Not nearly enough promotion and then they need to start looking at payouts for all series. They are becoming a farm league for the winged series. I think USAC needs a complete overhaul of people running it. Someone with more vision. Just my $.02.

Have you looked at the purse for this event? The payout for the top 5 in Saturday's feature is $20,039, $10,000, $7,500, $5,000 & $3,000. It pays $1,000 to start the feature with a total feature payout of $68,789 (24 cars).

20 cars start the last chance race with the top 8 transferring. 9th place (first non-transfer) pays $600 and it tapers down to $350 for 20th. The total payout for this race is $5,175.

The total purse for Saturday night with a feature, last chance race, 2 semi features, 2 C mains, & 2 D mains is $93,414 (120 cars). And they pay $100 to all non-starters in attendance.

Thursday and Friday's feature pays $5,000 to win, and $300 to start — a total payout of $19,500 for 24 cars each night.

Sandy, I have been to every BC39. Yes I know what the payout is. I am not talking about just this race. It’s the USAC events as a whole. Have you seen the payouts for High Limit events? Puts the USAC purses to shame. It’s why non wing drivers are flocking to winged series. But thanks anyway for the schooling.

And where do you think that purse for High Limit comes from?

Good grief…… you are now complaining about 71 cars at an event. Please go grind your axe somewhere else. We are going to enjoy this event.

Tell the people that go to the Chili Bowl they’re only gonna get 71 cars. You think I am grinding gears. They would burn the place down. Now if you’re okay with mediocre turn out, fine. Just go to Circle City Speedway and stay there. It’s just stupid to be okay with mediocre PortaJonr

How many open wheel events get more than 70 cars? 4 maybe 5. Winged racing gets way more support from fans, hence the larger purses. They also have higher ticket costs. This event has the second largest Midget car count of the year, I'm not sure that's something to complain about. With that being said I do agree USAC has some work to do. They seem to have accepted the status quo.

Leave it to someone on IOW to dump on a $20,000 to win Midget race.
