KTJ GOES TO THE TOP OF THE INDIANA SPRINT WEEK STANDINGS WITH BLOOMINGTON “W”

One of the more interesting connections involved with determining who will become the next Indiana Sprint Week Champion includes Bloomington Speedway.

No track has hosted more ISW races than the southern Indiana quarter-mile oval, and in ten of the 29 previous editions of ISW at Bloomington, the feature winner there has used that success to springboard themselves to an ISW title, more than any other venue.

The next in line to accomplish this feat could be Kevin Thomas, Jr., winner of Friday night’s “Sheldon Kinser Memorial” at Bloomington.* With his fifth career ISW victory, the Cullman, Alabama driver has jumped to the point lead of the series with two races remaining.

Previous drivers to make the leap from Bloomington winner to ISW champ in the same season include Chuck Amati (1989), Kelly Kinser (1994), Kevin Thomas (1995 & 1996), Jay Drake (2000), J.J. Yeley (2003), Dave Darland (2007), Jon Stanbrough (2010) and Bryan Clauson (2013 & 2014).

Although, Thomas does have to hold off a surging Robert Ballou who trails by a mere five points entering Saturday’s penultimate round at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt.* Lawrenceburg and Gas City winner C.J. Leary dropped out of the lead to third, 12 points back.* New USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car point leader Chris Windom holds down fourth in ISW points (-27), one point ahead of fifth-running Thomas Meseraull who suffered a serious blow to his ISW title chances after a first-lap incident relegated him to a last-place (24th place finish) last night at Bloomington.

Indiana Sprint Week continues tonight, Saturday night, July 15 at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt.* Pits open at 3pm and grandstands at 4pm. *Cars are scheduled for on-track activities at 6pm. (Central Time - Times are subject to change)

Following Haubstadt, the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship schedule carries on to Sunday, July 16 for the ISW finale when the newest champion will be crowned at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville.
