Dave Darland had a post up on social media "advertising" for a ride for the Josh Burton Memorial race at Bloomington Friday and for the MSCS race at LPS Saturday. It sure is a shame that a driver with Dave Darland's resume has to do this to attempt to get a ride.
I don't see the big deal. Everyone's on social media right? What better way to spread the word. It should save a lot of phone time searching. times are changing. Hope it gets him a ride.
Dave has a full time Sprint and Midget ride for USAC. I see nothing wrong with asking around for rides for other races. Especially since several teams have quit, parked em or only race part time when you used to see em out sometimes three nights a week.
I get it? At least I think I do? The point is that with Dave's accomplishments one would think that owners would be calling him to see if he was available for these events?

It would probably have been seen as less negative had this thread not been started...

It doesn't say anything about the state of the sport or reflect anything that's sad, in any way. As long as there have been race cars, there have been racers that have been networking, putting the word out, wheeling and dealing. etc. to let others know that they were available to race. Especially for "one off" races, like this one is for Dave. It's just that it's 2017 and social media is the fastest way to let the greatest amount of people know, in the shortest amount of time. It beats the hell out of making a bunch of cold calls or knocking on doors.

It's not what the sport has came to.It's what society has came to,and in this case it's a good thing. Its easier for drivers to reach out for a ride without making several phone calls. As what has been noted,Dave has full time rides in midgets and sprints,so most owners aren't going to keep calling and bugging someone.Dave is still a class A driver and will find wanted rides, just has a better option for reaching out, now.
