Walker Eager to Make His First Turkey Night Appearance
By Jessica Jenkins With the USAC National Midget season coming to a close this week, Gage Walker and his family-owned team are making the long drive out to California. When they pull into the track with their red #7x, Walker will make his debut at Ventura Raceway and the Turkey Night Grand Prix. This will also be another first for the rising star: his first race as a 19 year old, following his birthday on Tuesday. Coming off three top fifteen finishes in the past five races, including a fourth place in the USAC Indiana Midget finale and a great night in Wayne County that ended early due to battery issues, Walker is riding a wave of momentum. As he looks to move up from 14th in points, this will be by far the longest race in his career with the 98 lap Feature. Being paired with the USAC Western Midget series and going after a $6000 prize to win, there will be a huge field of cars showing up. Walker has demonstrated all year that he can handle it and battle at the front with the best of them. In his own words: I'm excited to make the trip out there for my first Turkey Night! I'm looking forward to racing in a new place, especially since it's on the beach. I just want to continue the little run we've had going the past few races of the year and hopefully finish the year out strong before we get into indoor stuff. Pit gates open at 3pm on Thursday with qualifying beginning at 3:30pm, followed by racing at 5:30pm Pacific Time. Updates throughout the night will be posted on his Facebook fan page @GageWalkerRacing. To learn more about him and catch up on his races this year or to see pictures, visit his website at GageWalkerRacing.com or follow him on Twitter @GageWalker7. |
