This past weekend the MMSA Winged Warriors traveled to the legendary Brownstown Speedway. The MMSA boasted another great 30 plus car count with a few new faces in attendance.
The 34 entries were split into 4 heat races.
Bloomington's Cory Meadows (#00) would win heat one fighting off the (#1) of Lynn Ambrose. Heat two was taken by Tyler Kendall winning in a dominating fashion. Last weeks winner Cody Trammel would capture heat 3, and the last of the Hoosier Speed heat races was won by Scotty Bradley driving his brothers (#86).
The B main was won by rookie Chase Hayhurst (#20) , running the top like an old veteran, he was able to transfer into the A main. Other transfers included rookie Mark Horning (#22), the (#11) of Brandon Smith, and Mike Miller piloting the number (#19).
Cindy Chambers would take the SWAT Pest Control Provisional.
The track had gone black by feature time and drivers were making necessary adjustments throughout the pits.
The MMSA feature event would roll out last in the night format, still in front of a very large crowd. Meadows (#00) would lead the field to green for the first time in his career, the cars stacked up and the start was called back. The second start was flawless and they raced clean into turn one. Rod Henning (#10h) would take the jump and surge to an immediate four car advantage over Meadows (#00) who began to fall back. At the mid way point Henning (10h) extended his lead to almost a full straightway, Ambrose (#1) went to the top and started making up ground, followed by Bradley (#86) and Dorsett (#10d) and a fast moving Brad Strunk (#23) on the bottom. Strunk (#23) would over take S. Bradley (#86), meanwhile Henning (#10h) would catch lapped traffic. Ambrose (#1) had pulled into within three car lengths as Henning (#10h) went to the bottom to clear lapped cars, Henning (#10h) trapped on the bottom would lose the point to Ambrose (#1) on the outside. Henning (#10h) would make contact with the disabled car of Meadows bringing out the yellow. Henning (#10h) would regain the lead with the previous laps scoring. On the restart Henning would again pull away, in the closing laps Strunk (#23) would move to third, behind Ambrose (#1). They would cross the finish line on the final lap with Henning (#10h), Ambrose (#1), Strunk (#23), Dorsett (#10d), and S. Bradley (#86) closing out the top five.
Mike Miller (#19) would take the Watson Racing Engines Hard Charger, passing seven cars and finishing 12th.
Thanks to all our races for continuing to make the MMSA the most prestigious Lightning Sprint Series in the country. Our group continues to make history with great car counts, and some of the toughest competition in the United States.
Have a safe and wonderful holiday July 4th weekend don't forget the pick up race at Windy Hollow Speedway, Owensboro KY, on July 10th, this event will be ran under the MMSA sanction but will not be a points race.
Thanks for the continued support of MMSA!
