Winning in a UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget at Anderson Speedway is never easy. In the first two series races on the high banks of Anderson Speedway brothers Kyle and Nick Hamilton scoring big, with Kyle Hamilton throwing in a 4th place in the Pay Less Little 500 presented by UAW GM to finish off the month of May.
The fact that Nick Hamilton led all 30 laps on May 25 is deceiving because he never opened up enough of a lead to get comfortable. Throughout the race he was hounded by Trey Osborne with Logan Huggler joining the fray as the race wound down. When the three drivers went into turn 3 three wide on the last lap and had a drag race exiting turn four the finish was far from settled. The May 5 Anderson race was a replay of the knife fight Nick Hamilton and Osborne waged at Columbus Motor Speedway in April. The two drivers finished one and two there as well. Following the Pay Less Little 500 presented by UAW GM Kyle Hamilton had this to say about racing the Kenyon Midgets at Anderson, It was really cool to be the top finishing Kenyon Midget vet at the Little 500 at Anderson because Kenyon Midgets at Anderson Speedway was where it all started for me. Hamilton went on to say, I wouldn't be able to wheel an 800 horsepower sprint car around if it wasn't for the years of honing my skills in a Kenyon car. Don and Mel along with all of the competitors shaped me into the racer I am today. The history of the UAW Mel Kenyon Midgets at Anderson Speedway makes predicting a winner difficult. The easy prediction is that the race may very well be decided in turn four of the last lap. The closest margin of victory for the UAW Kenyon Midgets at Anderson Speedway is a record 0.004 second set in 2015. The UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series returns to Anderson Speedway this Saturday night. The UAW Midgets will be joined by the VROA Modifieds and the Marcum Welding Pro Compacts for a complete night of racing. Qualifying begins at 6:30 with racing scheduled to kick off at 8:00. |
