Just noticed that 4 tracks will be running sprint cars this Saturday in southern Indiana.

Brownstown with USAC
Lawrenceburg
Putnamville
Paragon
Also, Montpelier is running their midgets.
BOSS is at Wayne County

If the weather holds out, I think we'll find out just how many sprint cars are out there this Saturday. Hate to say it, but I think the days of 35+ or even 25+ cars a night are gone. I'm going to guess less than 20 at each track. Am I just spoiled? Do you think tracks should try and cooperate with one another? Or just deal with it and watch 2 heats and a feature for 15 bucks. Not to mention 4 or 5 other classes to sit through...

I'm going out on a limb here & saying Boss will have the best count with at least 30. I also believe they are the best thing going right now for your money. Speaking of which If I could field a car I believe I'd put Brian Smith in it, he seems to run well when he runs without the wing. That is of course he wanted to do a little traveling.

With that said Please Aaron do not follow suit like the WOO & All Stars with what they do in lining up heats.

Lawrenceburg will probably have about 15 & I don't follow Putnamville or Paragon enough to say. USAC will more than likely have a decent car count.

I will not be attending any where Saturday night because of a previous engagement & the Wife & I's 29th Anniversary is Monday so I might just tip a few !!!!!

I think there still are some guys that haven't got everything put together yet.. Waiting on motors, etc. It's still early... Would b nice to c some guys cross the border from Illinois take their wings off and come run -have some fun at Lincoln Park Speedway and Paragon..No Disrespect.. Thanks to all the fellow racers from over that way that already do! Guess we'll have to wait and see how many show up...Whatever 4 of the tracks your at this weekend have a blast... It's non-wing action!!!

I was suprised at the number who'd only run one or two races on Sandy's summary so far. Paragon will probably add another 15+ to the total count of sprinters. I know of a couple being built. How many ran VCS that weren't on her list?

I think most tracks will be ok, Its when they got five or six tracks running sat night a few weekends this year.

I think wherever USAC is in Indiana they will draw 25 to 30, as long as its not the burg or THAT cuz those two tracks are BIG tracks which are hard on motors plus if you tear one up there you really tear it up. which is a shame cuz I like those two places I think like racing vids said our days of 35 40 cars at one place is over these days A lot of guys will start cherry picking their races and be watching the mileage. I have noticed lately that If MSCS is running there are a couple of other tracks that will bump up their purses mostly the to win money, to keep cars at their tracks, really I can:t blame them. Getting off the soapbox now

I am not sure why car count is so important.....maybe to the teams and owners who have to try to make a feature to keep going (why do you think the counts have dropped??) I just watched a race last weekend that had 37-38 cars show up and the feature really wasn't too exciting with the same guy pretty much leading every lap. So did everyone get their money's worth for a 37-38 car show? Or.....I can remember a race a couple of weeks ago at a different track where only 21-22 cars showed up and I think there were 5 lead changes, numerous cars moving forward, and a photo finish....so you tell me, which race gave the fans more value for their money? I say the 21-22 car show with a photo finish. Racing is a gamble for everyone, sometimes you hit the jackpot, other times you bust.....don't matter how shiny the quarter is that you put in the slot machine, if it don't win you the jackpot, it is just another quarter.....

I think most folks go to their local track to see most of the classes. You know some in every class so it keeps it interesting, Even if the headliner is less than a full feature.

Yeah, Ive actually seen some of the best racing for the lead with 14-16 car fields. That being said, Sometimes there isn't a necessity to make any moves in the heats to gain position. Everyone's guaranteed a slot in the show.

Most of us are lucky enough to have one of these tracks within a hour or so of us. Go enjoy em. I know I do.

However If you travel a couple/three hours and only know one class that your going to see and 13 cars are there. Is two heats and a feature worth that $$$ in travel and entry? No matter how you slice it. six or seven races of the headline class is more than three. Pushing the envelope is necessary just to make the show and the victor beat 36 cars, not 12.

There's good and draw backs to all of it. Some of the tracks used to run Sunday's and moved to sat's. One didn't exist at all and honestly has only brought more cars to the division. I can't remember when there were two dirt non wing traveling sprint series, Ever, And both being successful, In fact the bigger one for years suffered with only about 7 full timers compared to todays 15+ The smaller one has 20 full time followers add a dozen or more track regulars that don't "STAY AWAY" and you got 30+ fields.

We even often have two tracks on the same night offering higher $$$
Choices, Choices. Both for fans and teams............. Sometimes weather has a impact on how many are racing and where. I drove through heavy thunderstorms at my LBurg exit to make my first race at Paragon for a Amati race to find 40+ cars and and a 68 lap feature that I enjoyed both the track and the competition very much. After 45+ years watching sprint racing, new venue, format and 68 laps were all totally different for me.

Some see glass half empty. I see glass of potential. You never know where that photo finish will happen at, Or last corner pass to win. I've seen it happen at all the tracks. I've seen it with "The best of the best" and I've seen it with weekly racers.

Dang this sports exciting. Have fun no matter where you go! JUST GO!
