EFI Plumbing Question

OK, on my old Hilborn setup the on-dash shutoff was plumbed to the barrel valve; where should it go on an EFI? If I put it before the fuel rails I'm afraid of pressure buildup if I don't kill power to the pump, since the bypass is off of the regulator downstream of the throttle bodies. I have a shutoff between the tank and the pump but most associations require one in reach of the driver. Sorry if this seems elementary but the schematics I'm going off of from Hyper don't take it into account...

You only have to cut power to the fuel pump don't you, you don't need a valve like you had with the MFI? Just sayin! Bob

Thanks Bob, wasn't sure if the shutoff on the dash was still necessary or not; this late 20th/early 21st-century solid state whizbang stuff is all new to me...

First if the harness was cut properly the fuel pump will turn of as soon as ign or engine stops turning over. If you still have the secondary throttles, when you turn on the ign they will open and shut in about a 5 sec period. The fuel pump will do the same thing controlled by oil pres and ignition pulses. If they don't do this the harness has had the safety portion of the wiring left out. It takes a lot of work to leave it in. You can get an external oil pres control kit from Speedway etc that does a fairly good job, but not as good as factory. If the pump is wired directly to an on-off switch and you get knocked out that pump will just keep on pumping and adding to the fire until somebody get to it to turn it off ![]() The rest of the plumbing is pretty simple just run your pressure line from the pump through a fuel filter to one end of the fuel rail..come out of the other side of the rail into your inlet port of the regulator and out of the regulator back to the tank. 6AN fuel line works. If you are using gasoline use the paper 10 micron filter if you are using Methanol use a 100 micron ss filter. Paper and Methanol don't work too good together and usually it is hard to find a ss filter that will filter down small enough to protect them little bitty holes in an electronic injector. Give me a call>>>Get your self a nice big fuel pressure gauge with short hose and quick disconnect We do our fine tuning with fuel pres 2 psi at a time. When are you taking the car out? Thanks Dad, that's good info. I honestly don't know how well the harness was cut, I plan on laying it out and plugging things together tomorrow, see where I am; I could probably use a second set of experienced eyes to tell me what I do and don't have. I now have the plumbing done from the tank to the upper fuel rail exit, the regulator will go in once I get the dash back on. some bracketry to support the radiator tray and oil cooler, put the stuff back on I know how to do (seat, belts, axles) and we're good to go. In theory. Hoping to make Montpelier this Saturday If everything falls together.

Are you using stock rails or aluminum rails? Gasoline or Methanol? Honest Dad himself ![]() ![]() |

It's a Rosson Alcohol Velocity stack with Power Commander IV and a Power Commander secondary module.
