MIDWEST THUNDER MIDGETS DEBUT AT MONTPELIER SATURDAY

Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway hosts USAC’s inaugural “Midwest Thunder Midget” race Saturday and 2015 USAC Midwest HPD Midget Champion Alex Watson hopes to get a head start on a second USAC title.

Watson, of Columbus, Ohio, posted consistent finishes on his way to the 2015 crown and outpointed Jacob Stickle and Jacob Taylor to earn the title.

A total of 14 races are on tap for the 2016 Midwest Thunder Midgets, 10 at Montpelier and four at Waynesfield (Ohio) Raceway Park, concluding September 17 at Montpelier. Montpelier will also host the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars April 23 and the USAC National Midgets May 31.

USAC’s initial Montpelier races occurred in 2013 with Gage Walker scoring two wins and John Heydenreich and Toby Alfrey also recording victories in USAC HPD Midget competition.

To clarify, the USAC Midwest Thunder Race is a separate trophy dash style race that will be held at some point during the race program for D2/stock internal cars only. It is not a new division at our facility and we have NOT shut out full national Midgets/Engines.

Our Midget program is unchanged from the previous 3 seasons with an open tire rule, compound, and open engine rule, etc...
