We do several POWRi/MOWA shows at Jacksonville during the season and still have a double header scheduled for Oct 9-10th, but for some reason the Herb Barlow Memorial which we are holding this Friday Sept 11th at Jacksonville Speedway seems to always turn into the Race of the Year at Jacksonville Speedway.

The midgets are always incredible, especially when a guy like Chris Bell shows up to take his unique route around the joint driving off the walls. The show he put on in June during midget week is one we won't soon forget.

The MOWA point race is tightening and this weekend's events at Jacksonville and Spoon River will go a long way to sorting out the points chase. Has it already been two years since we had sprints climbing on top of each other for a photo finish that we debated here on IOW for a week at the 2013 Barlow Memorial?

There's a lot to choose from this weekend with high school football and some pretty good car races in the Midwest... but we are pretty confident you won't find a more entertaining way to spend your Friday night than by joining us at Jacksonville Speedway for the Herb Barlow Memorial.

Sport City Honda of Jacksonville is giving hard charger bonuses to each of the open wheel classes. $100 to Sprints, $100 to midgets and $50 to micros.

Gates open at 5:00. Racing at 7:00. We have 3 open wheel classes (Sprints/Midgets/Micros) plus our local stock cars. If you are hanging around for the weekend, join us under the grandstands after the races for some bench racing and cold beverages.

Looking forward to it. Haven't been able to catch Powri at Jacksonville this year, but it is typically a great show. MOWA puts on a good sprint show also. 3 nights of racing for me. World 100 on PPV tonight & Saturday and Jacksonville for open wheel action on Friday!

What is happening in Jacksonville? Powri isn't updating twitter or Facebook.

MOWA - 12 Hull (from pole), 51B Joe B. Miller (from 7th), 99W Kory Wyant (from 5th), 05 Loyet (from 12th, thus not winning 3 in a row, a feat never accomplished in the history of MOWA), 52F Faucon (3rd), 17M Joey Moughan (10th), 9 Neinhauser (the only sprint car driver from Pike County, Illinois in how long, if ever), 47 Babb, 10S Jeremy Standridge. Parker Price-Miller in the 2 came from 8th to 2nd in his heat. In the feature, he checked out the first part of the race. Then he appeared to fall back towards Hull until the PPM's car died or got a flat or something. He DNF.
POWRi 71 Bell from 2nd, 91T Tyler Thomas from 14th, was on the way out and didn't put down any more. Sorry. 71K Ryan Robinson was looking good until involved in an incident. Austin Brown and Hagen looked strong also. No surprises there. Sorry to anyone I forgot. Bell had about 1/2 lap on 2nd until an incident around lap 20 brought the field back up on him. From there he just took off again. Some of his passes of lapped cars were pretty spectacular.
I had a good chat with retiring announcer Jim Childers in the pits earlier in the afternoon. I was surprised to find the real reason for his retirement. As some of you may know, he and Dave Letterman have been close friends for many years. Long ago they made a pact that when one of them retired, the other one would also. Well, I don't think that Jim was particularly ready to retire, but Dave retired, so Jim had to honor their long-time pact. Isn't it amazing what you can learn in the pits?
