July 14th “Tony Stewart Foundation Night” at the Bartholomew County Fair
The Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com returns to the Bartholomew County Fair on Tuesday July 14th with “Tony Stewart Foundation Night” at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds in Columbus, Ind. The MTQRL and the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair are collaborating for this event to raise awareness of the Tony Stewart Foundation, which will have a booth set up just outside the entrance to the grandstand. The Tony Stewart Foundation is dedicated to serving children who are critically ill or physically disabled; animals at-risk or endangered; and drivers injured in the sport of motor racing. Pamphlets on the foundation will be available and donations to support this worthy cause will be accepted. $1 of each grandstand ticket sold Tuesday night will be donated to the Tony Stewart Foundation. In addition, Mark and Jen, founders of the MTQRL will match any donations the drivers make from their winnings that evening. Drivers that should compete Tuesday include current MTQRL point leader Ronnie Combs of Greensburg and his Tony Stewart Racing teammate Callie Wolsiffer, a rookie from New Palestine. Defending MTQRL Champion Cody Kiewitt of Seymour and Columbus drivers Rick Robinson, Matt Arrington and Jason Setser will also be racing. We also expect a strong contingent of drivers from Rush County including four-time MTQRL Champion Tate Martz, Aaron Percell, Jon Steed, Matt Hedrick, and Tyler Wooten. Connersville’s Brett Hankins and Joey Paxson, who swept both Rushville races earlier this season, will be there along with others including rookie Bret Johnson of Brownsburg. Practice is scheduled for 6:00 pm and racing will begin at 7:00 pm with the four fastest qualifiers competing in the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel. Racing will also include Perfect North Slopes heat races, a semi and 25-lap feature. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12. Pit passes are $25 for all ages. Thanks to our friends at Lawrenceburg Speedway, the first 300 paying adults in the grandstands will receive complimentary tickets to the July 25th race at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Sponsors such as Armstrong Garage Doors, Inc. have added $875 to the night’s feature purse increasing the payout to $500 to win and $125 to start. Each feature position will be increased a minimum of $25. We spoke with a representative of the Bartholomew County Fair Board this evening and they spent all morning working on the track. They are confident all systems are a go for tomorrow night. In the event of inclement weather, competitors and fans can be immediately notified of race cancellations by signing up for text alerts through RainedOut.com. Anyone is able to sign up for the service by simply texting MTQRL to 84483 or visiting RainedOut.com. When signing up via the website you are also able to sign up for email alerts. The service is free; however, standard text message rates apply in accordance with the text plan on your cell phone. The Bartholomew County Fairgrounds has survived the storms relatively well. All events will go on today as scheduled, including the buildings and Midway opening at 5:00 pm today. Today on the midway handicapped/disadvantaged/at risk can ride free from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm After 5:00 pm, receive 1 free ticket for each canned good or $23 wristbands.
We have been in contact with the fair board this morning and tonight's racing is still on as planned. Their preparations to the track area before the storms hit last night worked well. We will update again at approximately 1:00 pm. UPDATE 1:00 pm:
We just got off the phone with the Bartholomew County Fair Board and everything is still a go for tonight. We have also spoken with a driver that is at the track and he said they may actually need to put some water down on the racing surface. The infield is wet but the pits are good. We hope to see everyone at the track tonight! I was listening to the local radio station last night while working in the garage (on the other side of town from the track) and they gave a schedule of the fair proceedings for the evening, and didn't even mention that there was a race going on last night. They did however announce that there was something else going on in the grandstands so I just figured that you had to cancel. Talk about motor sports getting the shaft like normal on public radio.
