The Mel Kenyon Midget Series reaches the halfway point in its season this Saturday at the Lincoln Tech Indianapolis Speedrome. Going into Saturday’s 50-lap race Dameron Taylor leads the point battle while Kyle O’Gara has scored the most wins.
Taylor has led the point race since May 9 when he took over the top spot from O’Gara. Logan Huggler sits in second just 34 back, while Ashlea Albertson is third 21 behind Huggler and O’Gara is 19 in the wake of Albertson. With a tiny 74 point margin between the top four drivers, Taylor needs to stay sharp and finish well. O’Gara has won five races in 2015 putting him on a pace to beat Spencer Bayston’s all time single season record of 10 wins. The Indianapolis Speedrome has been good for O’Gara who found victory lane in the Mel Kenyon Midget Series two previous 2015 races on the legendary 1/5th mile. This Saturday will mark 2011 Champion Jessica Bean’s return to the Mel Kenyon Midget Series following a six week hiatus to meet other racing commitments. Bean’s record at the east Indy track is one of the best featuring 1 win, 10 top fives and 1 top ten. She has the opportunity to rob points from the series regulars, making the point contest even closer. The Lincoln Tech Indianapolis Speedrome spectator gates open at 4:30 for a full night of racing action. Mel Kenyon Midget Series qualifying begins at 5:50 with racing set to go at 7:00 PM. The Kenyon Midgets will be joined by a 50-lap World Figure 8 Car Feature as well as the Speedrome Stocks and the Super Kart/Fast Kart race |
