J R Williams has won a Focus Midget Main event.

The biggest supporter of Focus Midget racing in the history of the program, at 74 years young, won the Capital City Midgets feature event a Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night. This guy has been towing all over the western states going to focus races for the last few years. J R puts on more miles than anyone, coming all the way from Carson City, Nevada to compete in the mostly SoCal series.

Saturday night was shaping up to be a fairly typical night for JR. He smacked the wall in practice avoiding a spinner and had to change out the link. Then in the heat it didn't handle for him because he did not notice that he also had front end damage so he had to pull off and work some more. Up until this point, the highlight of the evening for JR was telling us all about the cool new hearing aids he just got! I tried to tell him that deafness is just God's way of telling you that you don't have to listen to your wife anymore... Anyway, our usual routine of giving him a hard time about being a racing fossil, and him coming right back at us with comments about how he was the one putting on the helmet and we are the ones with cheeseburgers in our hand, was rudely interrupted by the fact that he went out and pulled steadily away from the field to win by almost half a lap!

I ordered a set of those hearing aids for myself, first thing this morning.
