Wanted to say thanks to Kokomo Speedway and all there help they have given the Kokomo Quarter Midget Club this year!!! Jared showed up with the little one and Jared really didn't know what to think with all the people there and Starla taking off with the little one. The kids at the race track are never lost without nothing to do they have several x-boxes set up around the grounds and all the other toys they bring with them. It was cool when Jared meet the Stanley family and listen to the talk about Robbie and the wins Robbie had at the Kokomo Speedway. We had several of people ready to go to the Speedway after we got done at the track and the Stanley family was coming also but with the Robbie Stanley memorial race things lasted a little longer then what we thought. We finished up around 11pm but with over 200 cars everything went real good.
Update on Travis Ford in a 1/2 car. Travis took a bad flip coming out of turn two. Travis was knocked out when we got to the car and it was really great to have him in the hands of the R4 medical staff. Got a call from Travis's father and he said to let everyone know that Travis was checked out and ok and that the hospital was going to run a cat-scan just for safety. Wanted to thank everyone for showing up Sat & Sun!!! We are racing next Saturday hope to see you all there!!!:checkered: |

Glad the kid is ok. I really think something needs to be done about the drivers (kids) hanging their upper torso completely out of the cage, while racing. They have to much movement in there if you ask me.

Your right Ty!!! That has been brought up several times this year and this winter it will go to the round table to see what can be done about it. Several crashes this year and to see the helmets after the crash are unbelievable. Like Travis last night I couldn't believe it.

I'm glad to hear the little guy is okay. Quarter midgets are a really cool way for kids to get their feet wet in racing.

One fix might be the use of cage straps. Less cost then a totally new seat with the correct shoulder / side supports to keep them upright, but would keep the head inside the cage area.
That, plus propper us of the seatbelts (tight) would be a good start. Like Ty said, with the shoulders and head able to get outside of the cage, you not only have the risk of slamming a head into the track during a flip, but also the issue of a cars right front jumping over the left rear of another and hitting them in the back of the head and upper body in the middle of a turn. Glad to hear they finally are looking into this. It is a great class for kids to get a start in the sport. Yes, it will take some adjustment in driving styles, and chassis set up, but it would be worth it. Plus, they can't hang out of minisprints or Kenyons if they choose to move up through those ranks, so they might as well learn to drive being fastened in tight and secure. Ken Joyce |
