I'm am glad to say that I am amongst the few IOWers who were fortunate enough to watch Jim Moughan race often in central Illinois and occasionally with IMCA. I know we enjoyed the career of a truly nice man who could drive race cars with the best of 'em

Like POF, I too am an Illini who consider myself fortunate to have had the pleasure of watching Jim Moughan race. Where I first watched Mr. Moughan race was at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois. I also watched Mr. Moughan race at Shaheen's Little Springfield, although only a couple of times there. During the days of the rail cars (super modifieds/sprint cars) at Fairbury Mr. Moughan made several yearly appearances at FALS and mixed it up with the likes of Larry "Boom Boom" Cannon, Norman "Bubby" Jones and Bobby Carrigan.

It is great to see a truly nice guy be justly honored.

Jim was just finishing his career when I first started. I remember what a thrill it was running second to him in a B main at the old Champaign Motor Speedway in 1977.

Jim Moughan won one the best sprint car races I ever saw. That race was the Hawkeye Futurity Race at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in the mid-1960's. He and Jerry Blundy were side by side and bumper to bumper the entire race. Jim was driving the Hector Honore black #2.
Great, great, sprint car racing at it's best.
