602 and 604 are the last 3 digits of the part number used for the GM circle track crate engines
the 602 is an iron headed version with a cast crank and hydraulic flat tappet camshaft the 604 is more of a performance oriented engine with aluminum heads, billet crankshaft, and hydraulic roller camshaft both engines have been proven very durable in circle track use over the last 10 years and the parity is incredible for each individual engine the 602 is advertised at 350 HP and the 604 is at 400 HP I will add more info later on tonight thanks for asking Brad www.race-1.com www.paceperformance.com

more response for DAD (I like your avatar by the way)
the advertised power #'s are "engine" baseline and are very consistant they are based off of a 650 carburetor with a non oxygenated gasoline and a very basic header common racing fuels and upgraded components can bump them numbers 10 to 12 percent but that is about the top question of cost difference 602 VS 604 the base engine cost is just over $2200 more for the 604 the main component difference is the ignition the 602 engine comes from GM with an HEI distributor and keeping with the theme of the entry level "budget" package, we have utilized that distributor. the 604 engine come with NO distributor from GM so we elected to use a magneto to stay with traditional sprint car accessories eliminating any need for a battery other ignition forms are applicable for either engine but this is what we decided on for our package engines. hope that helps a bit as ever Brad |

Is looks like it won't be for everyone but will be for the blue collar worker that pays the bills himself with no help, or the racer that is can't afford to run the 410's or 360's. From what i understand this is the class they are going to start at Plymouth Speedway for 2016 with a non wing class. Plymouth Track manager Keith Beeching says they will be running a couple of car for exhibition on Saturday night and If enough cars show later in the season they would consider racing them. GM says that the motor will run 2-3 race season and only thing to do is change valve springs that cost $49 each year. I still like going to Kokomo and watching 410 cars but it would be great to have 20-25 410's and 20-25 602 cars on a Sunday night. To think a guy could buy a sprint car for less than $15,000 and race 2-3 year.

The original concept was for this division to be a stepping stone for those racing mini and micro sprints for about the same cost.
What has been surprising is the interest from street stock and modified drivers as well as older former drivers that still want to race on a budget. |

Would be cool to see this concept actually gain some traction and watch the interest grow.
Crate Late Models are big in some areas down south there's nothing that says that couldn't happen to sprint cars here. The biggest problem with Crate Late Models is the tech. If those cars are tech properly this might would depending on the interest it generates from being able to race a Non-Wing Sprint Car on a supposed budget. Good luck to those involved in trying to make this work and giving folks on a budget a chance at racing sprints.

Nathan,
The difference between the 602 program that most tracks and soon possibly a sanctioning body is that a new engine is less than $3,500 dollars. Because of this engine rebuilds will not be allowed like the 604 programs. There will be approved minor repairs at certified repair locations. Larry |

Larry,
I like this idea. And you are correct TECH is the key to make this a success. The question is will it take away from other classes???? It may for a few but I would rather have them do that than stop racing all together. Or maybe the older guys may come out of retirement to have some fun. Again the 410 and 360 cars are still the big show. But this could get your sprint car racing fix for alot less money. ![]() |

How much will this class pay? With all the engine combinations I've ran the cost to race every night was still pretty much the same.
