It's good to see Fairbury schedule something besides dirt late models and econo-mods. Fairbury is a well run facility but this is hard core dirt late model country and it's been very hard, over the years, for there to be any form of open wheel racing to make inroads in this area. If anyone can do it POWRi can. In fact, many of the regular Fairbury spectators kinda' turn up their noses at sprints and midgets.
Fairbury had a POWRi midget show scheduled last July but it got flooded out and it just kinda' faded away without any explanation as to why it wasn't rescheduled. Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative this coming season since we live within an hour of Fairbury. With a $2000.00 to win dirt late model feature and a $1000.00 to win econo-mod feature scheduled as support classes for the POWRi midgets this show has the potential to draw a great crowd. Maybe if the POWRi guys put on their usual great show it'll win over some of the dismissive late model people.

I can't speak from experience at the sprint car tracks that host dirt late models, but I can speak with ample experience in regards to Fairbury. What I say is the absolute truth. Since Fairbury is less than a 40 minute drive from us I really hope the POWRi collaboration works out well. I remember very well the last few times open wheel cars were welcomed to Fairbury and the lack of interest in those shows is the reason the open wheel cars haven't been invited back in well over 10 years.
As far as the term econo-mods is concerned it was merely semantics. If the term econo-mod is offensive to some then I'm really sorry. However, regardless of the cost of ownership and maintenance they are nonetheless a filler division. You say tomato and I say tomato, it's all the same thing.
