![]() 2014 MTQRL Champions Cody & Larry Kiewitt The Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com season ended Saturday with the unfortunate cancellation of “Funfest 2014” at the Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Ind. Cody Kiewitt of Dudleytown, Ind. finished 72 points ahead of Matt Arrington in the final standings to claim his first MTQRL Championship. Kiewitt had led the standings after eleven of the fourteen races, was never ranked lower than second, nor more than 20 points out of the championship lead. Driving his grandfather Larry’s Don’s Log & Farm / Steve Stuckwisch Motorsports / Joe Kleber Concrete / All Star Paving / Maschino Industries #60 Honda powered three-quarter midget, Cody was one of only three drivers to start every feature this year. He finished a season best runner-up in the MTQRL opener on May 10th, and compiled seven top five and ten top ten finishes in twelve starts. At just 18 years old and a senior at Seymour High School, Kiewitt set quick time once, won a Duel for Fuel and four Perfect North Slopes heat race. Kiewitt also earned the Watson Racing Quick Time and Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel Championships. Matt Arrington, after an eight-year hiatus from racing, clinched the runner-up position for himself and his car owner Terry Minor. Driving the Claas Lubricants / Columbus Hose & Fittings / X-Stream Clean Products / Drain Master Plumbing / Miller Trucking / Renegade Custom Suspensions / Lynch Motorsports #76X three-quarter midget Arrington closed to within 18 points of the championship lead in mid-August on the strength of back-to-back feature wins. A flat right front tire while battling for the lead in what would end up being the season finale September 20th at the Shelby County Fairgrounds would ultimately dash his title hopes. Nick Speidel failed to repeat his dominant 2013 championship season and fell to third in the standings. Driving his father Joe’s #1 three-quarter midget, Speidel ended the season with three feature wins, 129-points behind Kiewitt. Ronnie Combs, three points behind Speidel, finished fourth in the season standings. Driving the Tony Stewart Racing / Acro Racing / Creative Finishing / Jerry Wright Auto Body / Adams Performance Engines #14S Beast Kawasaki three-quarter midget, Combs saw four DNF’s derail his title hopes. Combs ended the year tied with Speidel for the most feature wins - three, and led the league with seven Perfect North Slopes heat wins. Combs was also the Tony Stewart Foundation Leader of the Pack Champion after leading 77 of the 285 feature laps. Logan Arnold rounded out the top five driving the Lynch Motorsports / Earls Indy / Psy-Med Services #43 Precision chassis Honda powered three-quarter midget owned by his parents, Kevin and Angie Arnold. Arnold scored his first MTQRL feature win on July 12th in front of a packed house at the Kokomo Speedway’s Sprint Week show and ended the year with five top three feature finishes in eleven starts. Tyler Wooten finished fourteenth in the season standings and was named the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Year and Aaron Percell finished the season with 44 feature passes, clinching the Indy Race Parts Hard Charger title. The Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Driver, MTQRL Spirit Award winner and the SSG Jeremy W. Doyle Most Improved Driver will be announced at the MTQRL banquet on December 6th where the top fifteen owners and drivers will be honored.
