On Sunday, you have the opportunity to see an endangered species at Anderson Speedway: a pavement non-wing sprint car race. This race is one of only six non-wing pavement sprint car races in the state of Indiana this year.
Yes, Sunday, April 27th is the date for the 15th annual Glen Niebel Classic featuring the USSA Sprint Cars and Kenyon Midgets. The sprint cars will conclude the day by running a 100 lap feature. Last year's "Niebel Classic" featured a quality field of 22 sprint cars with Aaron Pierce taking the checkered flag. I expect a decent car count this year as well with teams tuning up for next month's Little 500. *Gates open at 11:30 a.m. Qualifying starts at 12:20 p.m. Racing starts at 2 p.m. *Admission is $12 for adults, $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children 5 years old and under get in free. |

Some of the names on the entry list for the sprint cars include:
Jarrett Andretti Caleb Armstrong Jason Fuller Grant Galloway Matt Goodnight Garrett Green Kyle Hamilton Jojo Helberg Joe Liguori Anthony McCune Chris Neuenschwander Aaron Pierce Travis Welpott And I'm sure there will be more cars and names that will be there that plan on running the Little 5. |

Pretty good race. Armstrong got Pierce loose going into turn 3 with about 15 laps to go. Armstrong was able to get underneath Pierce to take the lead. Pierce made a couple runs at Armstrong and tried to rattle his cage, but was not able to get close enough. After the race, Pierce was none too happy with Armstrong, showing his frustration at him by bumping into his car and giving him a salute. Looked like there might be an altercation between the two in the pits, but security got between them and took a hold of the situation after a few harsh words were exchanged.
Also, want to give congrats to Travis Welpott for finishing a solid 3rd and running with the leaders all day. Also, Jarrett Andretti did a nice job after starting 15th and was running 3rd until a few laps to go when he got loose and got into the infield, which cost him one spot. Andretti probably had the fastest car on the track, but was unable to get around the top two. Just wish there were a few more cars there and more fans. Although, the fan count was up from last year due to the perfect weather conditions today. Overall, a good show! ![]() |

So what has happened to this race? Used to draw cars from all over.

Too close to the little 500...
If something happened like a couple of cars yesterday had happen to them, there's no time to get it fixed before the biggest pavement sprint car race of the year. I was there yesterday, I was not too happy with the USSA not putting Armstrong to the tail after he punted Chris Neuenschwander. That was BS! BUT then again, he did it to Pierce. If that's how the kid is going to race guys, he better not be surprised when it comes back to bite him in the butt! I expect a long month of May for that kid. There are people that absolutely will not put up with that! He'll be sitting up against the concrete in a trashed out race car if he continues with that style... |
