Inclement Weather Forces Postponement of April 4/5 28th Annual Season Opener at the Montpelier Motor Speedway.
A week that contained snow and cold followed by rain has forced the Montpelier Motor Speedway officials to postpone the Montpelier Motor Speedway April 4 and April 5 Season Opener. The Montpelier Motor Speedway is currently undergoing its biggest renovation including the addition of a new catch fence system, front stretch wall, track drainage system, track configuration, transponder scoring system along with a track lighting project. Despite the harsh winter and spring and massive renovation project, the Montpelier Motor Speedway staff has been able to complete a majority of the renovations project by working from 6AM to nearly 10PM. Despite the effort, the weather conditions slowed progress. "We felt like the track renovations and upgrades needed to be completed by the end of the March 29th weekend so that we could focus on track prep and race operations the entire week for the Double Header opener. We are close to have everything complete, but early season track prep is always tricky especially with the winter we've had and the two day show format. We felt like if we were still focusing on finishing up the loose ends of the renovation the week of the race instead of race prep we couldn't provide the a quality experience for our fans and race teams. The couple days we lost this week to weather was all we probably needed to have everything finished. We felt it was important to make sure everything was done right verses thrown together especially when you are dealing with safety and electrical projects. We are disappointed the weather wouldn't allow us to get the program in. It's always a big weekend for us, our race teams, and fans," said track owner, Harold Hunter. The Montpelier Motor Speedway will now focus its attention on April 12th for its 28th Annual Season Opener with a program of UMP Modifieds, Super Streets, Thunder Cars, FWD Compacts, and Mod Lites. followed by the first appearance of the MMS Midget Series on April 19. The Montpelier Motor Speedway will look to reschedule two Midget programs during the 2014 season so that series will be able to compete for 10 dates for the series championship and rookie of the year honors. Midget dates will be announced within the next couple of weeks. |

Thanks for the heads-up Brian; I took the week off at work to finish up the 97 for next weekend so we should be chomping at the bit by the 19th.

We had a full crew working Saturday. Once that snow came through it turned everything cold, wet, and very muddy. It was tough sledding Saturday under brutal wet working conditions. Sunday couldn't haven been anymore of the opposite and allowed us to get a lot finished.
