Well the first race of the inaugural Wingless Oklahoma Warrior season opened up tonight at 81 speedway in Wichita, Kansas. The series was paired with the NCRA winged 360's. The WOW had nine cars show up but the series at this time is mainly made up of Oklahoma City area drivers and four of the cars that are regulars in the series are fighting motor gremlins, myself included. Wichita is a good three hour pull one way for many of us. The fans were very happy as well as the promoter at the end of the night. Last year this series was a weekly class that had to find something to do as their weekly track shut down mid year. So we all banded together as drivers and car owners to form the series in the offseason. With the rise of racing the majority of us would be watching from the stands instead of racing. Had a rookie, first time in a sprint car came up from micros, win the heat and a 2nd generation regional driver take the feature.

So everyone knows this is not a presser for the series. I thought I would share some info.

for some videos of the night. You can also go to www.WinglessOklahomaWarriors.com to keep up with points and check out our schedule as well. We have rules posted on both sites.

Erich, I enjoyed seeing the WOW cars in action last night. It appeared there was a fairly wide gap in driving experience and equipment quality, yet there were some exciting moments among the front runners. All in all, it's a great start for nonwing racing in this part of the country, and I'm happy the guys showed up. Best of luck as the series moves forward.

Bob a lot of the guys that raced around here without the wings back in the 80's all have hung up their helmet. As you know everyone wants to go wing racing in these parts either with the ASCS or NCRA. The motor rules we have in the series are frozen for five years. There is no carbon fiber or Ti stuff allowed on the cars.So on paper everyone is the same and we do tech the cars. But, you did hit the nail on the head as far as experience on set ups etc etc. However, that is what makes this series so appealing, to me especially , is that I do not have to rob the federal reserve to go racing. As we all know that is what it seems to be happening in some places.

Thanks for coming out. We do appreciate it.
