MRL GASES UP FOR 2014, MOD LITES SET FOR MONTPELIER, PLYMOUTH, PARAGON

UPLAND, Ind. (March 11, 2014) – Why put on the trailer until next year what can be raced today.
“The fans, racers and promoters deserve this,” Midwest Racing League president Chad Orr said. “The Mod Lites are on board and MRL will start this season instead of waiting a year.”
Increased purses, a point fund and new tracks are part of a 23-race agenda. Montpelier Motor Speedway will host 19 events. Plymouth Speedway has signed on for three huge races. The most recent addition to the schedule is Paragon Speedway. All three tracks are in Indiana.
The 2014 schedule can be found at midwestracingleague.com and on the MRL Facebook page.
“We were hoping we could accelerate the process to this season,” Orr said. “We’re honored to have Montpelier, Plymouth and Paragon on board.”
The Mod Lites have been steadfast the last several seasons at on the ¼-mile clay oval at Montpelier. The series’ inaugural season opens there April 12 and concludes with the annual Monster Mash Weekend in October.
Plymouth Speedway’s 3/8-mile dirt opens the gates to the Mod Lites May 3, Aug. 2 and Sept. 13.
Keith and Judy Ford’s Paragon Speedway will host the series at that facility’s 61st season opener May 17. The feature will pay $500 to win.
All three Plymouth events will feature increased purses, including $500 to win and more than $2,000 purse at the finale Sept. 13.
“Plymouth Speedway wants to provide a variety of racing for the fans,” Plymouth owner Ed Kennedy said. “The MRL Mod Lites give us an opportunity to add a division that is fun to watch and a bit unique in all of dirt racing.”
Track competition director Matthew Schwartz agrees.
“Supporting MRL is a good thing for Indiana dirt track racing,” Schwartz said. “It gets more people racing and more fans in the stands. We look forward to MRL Mod Lites making a few stops with us in 2014.”
MRL already has race teams from several states, including Iowa and Missouri, interested in the inaugural season. The series point fund and full purses will be announced soon on midwestracingleague.com.
The MRL Crate Modifieds and Crate Late Models will debut in 2015.
“We are geared up,” Orr said. “The response from tracks and teams has been great. It is unbelievable we are a month away from our first green flag.”
