+What the heck.....thought I'd throw in a mid-week quickie retro from The 'Burg just because I enjoy seeing the names again and remembering how much fun it was back then. Hope some of you will also enjoy the look back.

+Good night for Dizz Wilson cars #71 (winner) and #72 (second).
+Not sure if the #19 chauffeured by Mike Johnson on this night was the Maude Smith owned car. What say you smith19?
+My buddy John Mugavin (wallbangerII here on IOW) had a decent night in the stocks with fast time in quallies, 2nd in his heat (from the tail), 3rd in the dash, and 6th (from the back row) in the feetch won by Bob Smith.

Another one before my time here in the Hoosier State. Thanks for posting so us "rookies" can play some catch up.

I have another question so please bear with me. How come the first heat had all of the fastest qualifiers in it? Before when I asked, I was told that the quick qualifier started 7th in the first heat, 2nd quick 7th in the second heat, 3rd quick 7th in the third heat and so on. Did this change when there were less than 28 cars in attendance?

Mud Packer, if this is from Lawrenceburg in 1968, then this is NOT a USAC show, but a local or SCIRA (I believe it stood for South Central Indiana Racing Association) event. In later 60's and 70's it was typically only USAC that utilized the heat format you note. Local tracks would have a "fast" heat and a "slow" heat and if enough cars were present a "slower" heat. Most local tracks ran a trophy dash too, which USAC rarely did.

And Mr. Fish, thank you SO MUCH for posting these. I grew up watching many of these same drivers at Haubstadt. This brings back some great memories!

Thanks for pointing out what I should have realized was the obvious. I assumed it was a USAC show. Not having lived here during this period of time, I didn't know how the SCIRA lined up their races. Another lesson learned.

Mudpacker, do you have a car owner listed for the #14 car? Thanks! Bob

Bob,

Marv was the one who posted the results so I can't help you on this one. I wasn't in Indiana when this race was run. Sorry.

pretty sure Brewer was the owner's name and that car had a Cadillac engine in it, at one point. I'm not sure if it was the Cadillac on this night, though.

Thanks, figured it should be anyway, Jerry always ran the #14, and his Dad before him, and son JL always ran it on his go-kart, and the TQ midget I built for him. JL has a son now, who is into .25, I think he's moving up a notch this year, makes ya feel old to have been part of a "legend" of sorts, might say 4th generation, I don't know if Jerry's dad, Pete, had a father in racing, but Jerry always liked his Cadillac's, no substitute for cubic inchs, I think JL keeps finding parts stored away here and there. Their claim to fame is using the #14, long before Foyt used it. Thanks for the info! Bob
