WAR sets 2014 schedule
California, MO(January 20, 2014)- The WAR Series presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps is set for its third year of competition in 2014. Series director Andy Korte had this to say about 2014. “I’m really excited to get things kicked off for 2014! I think it’s going to be a great season. We’re visiting lots of new tracks this year, so I can’t wait to see what kind of races we put on.” 2014 will mark the most ambitious schedule yet with eighteen race dates set for eleven different tracks in three states. Included in the schedule are four returning tracks and seven new tracks including two trips outside the state of Missouri. “We’re going to a couple of different facilities this year that I always wanted to race a non-wing car on as a driver” said Korte. “So, I’m pretty excited to see what the guys will do.” The season will kick off on Saturday March 28 at the Lebanon-Midway Speedway in Lebanon, MO. This marks the third consecutive year that WAR will compete at the quarter-mile oval. Additional Saturday dates will be held on August 1 and October 3. For the second time in series history, WAR will make a trip to a track in the Sunflower State. In its inaugural season of 2012, WAR visited Atchison County Raceway in Atchison, KS. For the first time, WAR will head to southeastern Kansas and visit the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, KS on Friday April 25. Five tracks will be included on the schedule for the first time, along with the first ever visit to Illinois. On Friday April 18 the destination will be Callaway Raceway in Fulton, MO. This will be the first sprint car show scheduled in nearly a decade at the quarter mile oval. On Saturday April 26 WAR will head to the recently reopened Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, MO to do battle on the three-eighths mile oval. Memorial Day weekend will see WAR visit two more new tracks in two states. The weekend will kick off on Saturday May 24. WAR will make a first appearance at the Montgomery Motorsports Park in New Florence, MO. The three-eighths mile oval is under new promotion in 2014 as UMP Late Model driver Jim Moon has taken over . A trip to the “Land of Lincoln” will be made to the Quincy Raceways in Quincy, IL on Sunday May 25 as WAR crosses the Mississippi River for the first time. “We’re looking forward to our trips outside the state as well,” says Korte. “As we continue to grow the series, our reach keeps expanding further. “ Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, MO hosts WAR on Saturday July 5. The high-banked speed plant was reopened late last year and will host WAR for the first time. One final track making a WAR debut will be Dallas County Speedway in Urbana, MO. The quarter mile oval is scheduled for Saturday September 1. Continuing its association with WAR in 2014 will be the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. Four races are planned. The first is on Saturday May 3 as part of the Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps Open Wheel Showdown. The second show will be on Saturday June 21 as part of the ASCS Sizzlin Speedweek Finale. WAR will also participate in the 4th Annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial on Friday September 26 and Saturday September 27. For the second straight year, Springfield Raceway in Springfield, MO will host WAR. Two Saturday dates are planned on June 7 and October 25 at the quarter-mile oval. Making a return to the schedule in 2014 will be the Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO. Two Friday night dates are scheduled for May 9 and September 12. A special Independence Day show is scheduled for Thursday July 3. As for the future of the WAR series, Korte had this to add. “Honestly, our two races where we are traveling outside the state of Missouri is sort of a little experiment. I don’t want to give any details but will just say that there are some exciting things in the works looking to the future of WAR. So, we’re just stretching our legs a little bit.” Additional dates could be added in the future. Does anyone know what kind of sprints this organization runs? I see from their web page that Shu won their last race in the Hockett car, which leads me to think it is wingless 360" or 410". However, I couldn't find anywhere on the web page which says. Just curious.

WAR stands for Wingless Auto Racing... 2012 was their first season, and in the 2 years they have been in business they have really elevated their program a ton... they have some good sponsors, carry a very respectable car count everywhere they go, have a souvenir trailer, a simulator, a pace truck, and several officials that travel with them. It's a fun series to run with, and for some reason their rules combined with the tracks they run make them one of the most affordable series you can run with.

It's so awesome to see them come farther west towards the St. Louis area! Hopefully if I can find a ride or get rid of my Late Model I'll get to mix it up with you guys.

I agree F5,there is no non wing stuff in the St. Louis area. Last year I drove to Haubstadt several times and did the see the WAR series at Wheatland. Hopefully they will make it this way. Hope to get to Flora as well

The WAR group is pretty entertaining. Because of the way that the class started, there is always a wide range of cars in the pits. Some of them are definitely racing for first, and some are definitely racing not to be last. I know that they still have 410's competing against 360's. In the early years, there were also some 305's racing in this series. I do not know if any of those engines are still around. The WAR series was the melting of a couple different classes to form what it is today.
