Sad day in auto racing.
We lost a couple of excellent shoes as a result of a tragic accident at Ascot. Don Branson. Even though he had a late start to his career he had an excellent one. He was a favorite of mine because of his rim riding style of riding the cushion higher than anyone else. Don Passed away on this day in an accident involving Dick Atkins. Dick Atkins was a Parnelli Jones protégé and a fast rising star. He just missed the 1966 Indy 500 starting field because he was bumped out in the final hour by Larry Dickson. But would turn it around with a win the Champ Car race at Sacramento later in the year. Dick died of his injuries the day after the wreck at Ascot. |

One of the best looking Indy roadsters of all time IMO.
Driven by Don in 1961. http://www.imsgptix.com/Photo/PhotoD...PageNumber=185 |
