WICKED FAST: Racing Through Life with Bentley Warren

In the mail yesterday, I received the new holiday catalog from motorsports book publisher Coastal 181. There’s a new book coming out this month: WICKED FAST, a biography of supermodified legend, Indy 500 veteran and 2x Little 500 winner Bentley Warren. The book is compiled by Bones Bourcier so you know it’s going to be good.

All I’ve got to say is “it’s about time”. Bentley Warren is one of the real characters in this sport. I’ve been a fan of his since I was a little kid going to the races at Oswego. With all the Bentley stories I’ve heard growing-up, I can’t believe the book is “only” 272 pages!

It should be a must-read have for any open wheel fan.

I got my catalog in the mail the other day as well,and had good intentions of mentioning it here,but got waylaid packing to come to the Oval Nationals.

Coastal 181 has lots of books,and Dvd's etc in their catalog. They have a pretty good memory too,as a few years ago I inquired about the Bob McCready book and they told me it was sold out,and no one had any copies for sale. A year later I got an e-mail from them inquiring if I still wanted a copy,and they got a few copies back. I couldnt believe they had remembered! I also ordered the book immediately!

Got my catalog, too! I have so many good unread racing books; I need to read more and stop watching TV so much!

I can only imagine how good this book will be. This guy lived in the fast lane and was quite the showman. He could wheel a super with the best of them. I will be interested in reading about not only his racing exploits but also his off track experiences as well. Thanks guys for the heads up.

I have a cousin who was a huge fan of bentley warren, or if we were drinking warren bentley. Anyway on his first trip to the oswego classic in 1979, bentley crashed out around 60 laps into the classic. Within 30 seconds of this he said it wasn't worth staying any longer. He got up, walked out, and drove back to eastern mass. Now thats what you call a die hard fan! The rest of us stayed to watch chuck ciprich two peat.
