A.J. Fike's win in the Tony Bettenhausen 100 USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series event last year at the Illinois State Fair was a historic one. Gary Bettenhausen, son of Tony, was the last Illinois driver until 2012 to capture the race win at the Fair. This was in 1983. It took 29 years for an Illinois native to return to victory lane in USAC competition, 46 years for someone from Central Illinois as Don Branson was the last driver to do that. Can A.J. go back to back? Will Chris Urish, Zach Daum, Shane Cockrum, or another local driver break through for their first career USAC Silver Crown win? We will find out Saturday afternoon on the Springfield Mile, that is for sure. Hope it is a fast, safe, competitive race.
