Been looking forward to coming up and running the 3/8 mile dirt. Wish it was this weekend, we would be there for sure! Please schedule another Non-Wing show or 2 in September.

There was a Michigan Dirt Cup Late Model Race scheduled for Plymouth that same night. It is still on their scheduled (www.michigandirtcup.com). What happened there with that?

This disappoints me greatly. And for entirely selfish reasons. We used to run Plymouth 2-3 times a year with the HOSS series when it was pavement. And I live 5 minutes from the track. And for the last 18 years we’ve been sponsored by a NAPA store (Jenkin’s Automotive) in nearby Bremen, IN. It wasn’t big money, but it was nice.
But since South Bend Speedway is not running a sprint car show this year and with Plymouth running dirt, but not scheduling any 410 races, our sponsorship was seriously downsized. It was not a surprise and I really felt they were reluctant to do it. We continue to have their name the same size on the car even though our sponsorship was smaller. So I was pleasantly surprised to see a 410 non winged race scheduled. I was ready to shove our motor in the dirt car and give Jenkin’s some exposure. But my surprise was short lived. Unfortunately HOSS also has a race that night 60 miles away at Illiana Speedway. Knowing most everyone on this site is a non-winged dirt fan, I’m sure you are saying, “Screw that pavement crap! Go get dirty!” The problem is admittedly, at Plymouth we will be probably be an 8th – 12th place car. We just don’t run enough dirt any more to be real strong. Especially with the strong Indiana fields. And Jim runs very strong at Illiana. A couple of years ago, he lead the first 27 laps of a 30 lap race before getting trapped behind a lapped car and got passed. And this was with a 360 motor! He has finished top five a couple of times since then. So we have a legitimate chance to win. We can’t just run both cars (one at Plymouth, one at Illiana) as we currently only have one motor and it is out being freshened right now. Decisions, decisions, decisions. This would be a lot easier if they had picked a different weekend! Tom Paterson “Like” PDP Racing on Facebook |

It's a shame that the regional late model tours in this area (MDC, ALMS) are affected so much by just one track. I wish a Saturday night track would give them some competition, but this isn't the forum to discuss that. I was looking forward to seeing a late model race at Plymouth (or anywhere north of Indy for that matter). If they schedule late models, I would make a trip there to see it. I went once when it was pavement about 15 years ago. Posted via Mobile Device |
